My daughter drew the youth tag. It looks like a lot of private property. Should I hire a guide?

It's basically all private. If you don't have ground lined up a guide might not be a bad idea.

My daughter drew that tag a few years ago. If you do not have property already lined up it will be a tall order to find any.

there are still a few land owners that will let you on with a kid, but not that many.

some big bucks live out there.

We got a nice one.

If you don't have a substantial amount of land lined up you shouldn't even be putting in for this unit. We have access to approximately 6,000 acres and it's taken almost 10 years to get there. There are some big bucks though, in 2015 I killed a 179 and my dad killed a 169 in 2016. That lucky sob drew the tag again this year! Check out onx and start contacting land owners that have canyons in there land or very close to it. The canyons provide water and are by far the most productive pieces of ground.

Oct has 50 tags
Nov has 25 tags
Whitetail general season closes december 1st. If you wait till December your going to be free of a lot of competition. There's half a dozen angles you can go at this with out throwing a bunch of money at it. Oct10-december31 is a long time. Most of those 25 youth tags will get filled long before December 1st. A kid knocking on a door in December has a way better shot than you or I in Oct/Nov.

My dad drew the October tag, the properties we have access to aren't typically very good during november. You just end up watching smoker bucks a thousand yards away chasing does on the other side of the canyon where we can't go.
