Almost went out in the desert today to look for coyotes and elk. It was 15 below here in town, and 25 below up at Dubois. I saw that Island Park and West Yellowstone were -38 degrees.

Just how cold does it have to be, before you yell UNCLE, and give Mother Nature a pass??

The colder the better. I really like coyote hunting when it's -15 ambient or colder. Coldest it's been when I killed a deer archery was -57 with windchill. It was -10 ambient when my wife killed her deer this year.

Coyote hunting at any temp. My Diesel I leave running at any temp colder then -40. Animals don't like to run when it is well below zero. So you can get close, but remember not to bump them. I love it out there when it is really cold because no one else is out there. The wind is always blowing somewhere so work in out of the wind and you will find the animals (they don't like the wind either). Most of all be safe and have a good plan for everything you can think of that could go wrong. Winter can be unforgiving.

You Eastern ID guys can have the cold and the wind.

0 to 15 degrees is prime hunting, dealing with frozen quarters is a ##### from start to finish.

Was in my layout blind last week when it was 22 degrees, blowing 20mph, that's plenty cold for me.

Wow, I was staying near Caldwell during that time and temperatures had lows in the 20?s and highs around 30. Much warmer than eastern Idaho.
