poss road closure prineville

Remember it everytime you buy a Les Schwab tire.

Anyone who thinks the grandkids are so much as a pale shadow of the man who made them rich spoiled brats doesn't know anything about what's become of things.

Teaters road will be opened back up on Monday morning ( of course after bow season is closed ) but apparently RMEF went to battle with schwabs and won. I guess the idea of getting your name put in BUGLE magazine with a heading like "les Schwab tires closed access to hunters" is enough to make even the biggest azz holes give in! Good! I will still drive right past their stores when I need new tires just because of the crap they pulled

I live in Schwabtown, I mean Prineville and I hadn't heard that.

I doubt it's over but I'm glad to see it isn't over already. not much the Schwab family wants they don't get in Crook County.

Where did you hear Teaters was opening back up? I asked some people around town who should know and it was news to them.

BLM law enforcement in town said it's closed and there are no plans to open it at this point.

Story is all over town today. the road is not open, BLM reviewd the easement and found the 350 foot section in question is able to be used by the public. Waibels have been ordered to open the gate but they refused and have filed a suit against the BLM. now it's in the courts hands.

When you go to buy tires remember this regaurdless of the outcome. nothing about the company is anything like it used to be when Les was alive, he knew about this situation and chose to not go there. just some ingrateful spoiled grandkids today.

i stopped dealing with les swab years ago when they lied to my daughter just to get her to spend more $ on ##### she didn't need...pukes

You mean the old we can't let you leave with your vehicle like this for liability reasons?

I deal with them only as a last resort. have since Les died and they moved the office to a more " civilized " community than Prineville.

I guess the courts will decide the legal side of things in this particular situation. While I'm no fan of restricting access to public land, I do understand private land owners who don't want people driving across their land. I know many ranchers around here that have come to hate deer season the last few years. With the prevalence of atv's/utv's now, it is a nightmare for ranchers. Fences cut, gates left open, water troughs shot, trash everywhere, waterholes and springs beat down and "mudded" through, cows shot, deer shot on their property without permission, trails cut across fields, up ridges and down draws, buildings vandalized, signs stolen or destroyed, etc.
I understand that it is probably only 10% of the people causing 90% of the problems but that doesn't really comfort ranchers, every year it seems like I lose another piece of access because a rancher goes to a no access policy because he is tired of fighting the many problems caused by the few. They feel like their only option is to put their property on lockdown. This Prineville situation is a high profile case and is easy to blame the "spoiled rich kids" but but honestly, I would probably do the same thing in their shoes. It is not an isolated situation, this is happening all over every year because people continue to disrespect the land and people's property. The problem is pretty clear, it's the solution that's hard to see.

+ 1 bonepicker and I am not a fan of Les Schwab Tires, but I do strongly belive in land owner rights.

I am a rancher north of Prineville myself, I have public roads through my land . I've had poaching and vandalism. why can't I close these roads too?

I'll tell you why. it's because I don't have a clerical error from 1964 on my easements and a team of on staff lawyers at my disposal.

You think blocking a 350 foot section of a road that has access from both ends will solve all the problems? it's actually going to create more. public roads are a fact of life for landowners in every state of this nation, Teaters road is just one of millions. I would love for someone to tell me why it's any different.

The LS was Les's pride and joy, drive by there now and you'd never know he had ever been there. the LS signs are down and his legacy is being eliminated but those who leach of his life's work. Les knew he could have this fight with the public, but he chose the high road as he usually did.

I hear you on the private land right issue, believe me I do. but if you knew more about the players and rational behind it you would have little symapthy. many things changed in Prineville when Les died and none for the better.
