OTC elk archery around Bend

I might be moving to Oregon in the next few years to be closer to family. If I am understanding correctly many of the areas around Bend are OTC archery elk. I have done OTC in Colorado so I know how hard those unrestricted hunts can be. But is there good potential on the OTC hunts in OR? I am in NM, so this is a very different game for me. Thanks.

Everything aroud Bend is OTC for achery and some of the elk hunting is OTC for rifle too that is close to Bend. If you do a lot of scouting I think that there can be potential but most likely not what you are used to in NM. I hope that helps a bit.

It does help, thank you. I get it, you guys hunt OTC while you work on your preference points. OTC just ensures you get an opportunity to hunt elk every year if that is your wish. I am trying to get smart on estimating draw odds and preference point requirements. It took me awhile to nail down how to read the reports and info in Colorado, still learning about Idaho. Its funny how every state has a different format to tell us the same thing.

The best way to learn the Oregon point system is to go to Ron Wold's web site on Oregon tag percentages. He does a good job of explaining the ins and outs of our point system. He has a chart for every hunt as well. Google oregon tags ron wold and you will find it.

Elk hunting Oregon's east side OTC units is about like a NM unit 10 hunt. Our best LE hunts are comparable to a 34/36 hunts, maybe a 16C.
