No sales tax

Question for Oregon residents, is it popular for out-of-state people to come to Oregon and purchase a vehicle? Are there rules in place to collect the tax on non residents? I ask because I'm in the market for a new vehicle and if the no sales tax applies to everyone including the non residents, it would mean a savings of around $4400 dollars and well worth the trip up there. By the way, I'm not a cheap bastard, I happily pay my taxes, but a savings on a purchase like this that I only make every 13 or so years, forces me to do a little homework.
Thanks

If you live in Kalifornicated, once you register it in that state you will pay sales tax. Not sure about other states. Since Kali has the highest DMV fees you might consider keeping it registered in OR...easier said than done, Your DMV fees for that vehicle would be pushing $750.00 per anum. You know what sales tax would be. Too damn much!

Not worth the hassle, just my opinion.I bought a pickup out of state and CA.only gives 20 days to register that vehicle here, the dealership was late with sending the info to CA.DMV,I got stuck with paying nearly a $1000. penalty!

It sounds like you live in a state that collects sales tax. I believe all of them will still collect the tax when you license the vehicle.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-24-16 AT 09:28AM (MST)[p]That's what I've been finding out. I'll still have to pay when I register in AZ. I thought it would be just normal registration fees. It's been a long time since I bought a new vehicle.
Thanks
