Premium hunts..What'd ya put in for?

I only put in a shot on deer, Beulah unit. Thought it be fun to chase some rutting bucks around up there? Wouldn't it be great if next year they tell how many guys put in for what? Did anybody else go in?

I put in for elk, deer, and pronghorn. Not any of the great units, just hoping for a tag. With the season dates allowed by the tags, a "lesser" unit will work just fine with probably much better drawing odds.

I put in for Walla Walla elk, Juniper Antelope and White River Late buck. Thought about putting in for lessor units but I can draw most of those with points. I'll never have an opportunity at the hard to get hunts with the point creep.

I applied for the Mt. Emily elk, Juniper pronghorn and Biggs deer. It will be interesting to see just how many people apply for those premium hunts.

The lesser tags are still probably much harder to draw. Just have no idea what the numbers are though. But I'm guessing some of those better units will end up being 1000:1 odds. Biggs is an interesting idea, would be good late in then year. anyplace would be actually.

Mt. Emily for elk, Owyhee for deer, and Junitper for goat...

Brilliant way to get an extra $24 dollars from most of us... I love Oregon, but the hunt quality is pretty poor. I doubt my $24 will help the hunting get better, but 64 hunters will be pretty happy.

I never thought interstate would get picked that much. Ft Rock must be high on the list as well. I bet 500 guys put in for ochico elk.

It is a brilliant scam, and if it were anyone but ODFW I'd think maybe something good would come from it. all the money will probably go to transgender fishing instructors in Portland or something similar.

I'm sure Ochoco elk will be one of the most popular no doubt. if In wasn't trying as hard as possible to boycott ODFW I would have applied for Steens deer and pronghorn as well.

I went with the strategy of applying for the premium hunts in boring units hoping that less people would put in for those and that would up my chances from astronomical to just shy of impossible. I put in for Silvies for deer, Malheur River for elk. This year will probably be the best chance for any of us to get a premium tag, next year a lot more people will probably figure out what the premium hunts are and will be willing to give it a shot. It will be interesting to see how many people put in for the premiums. Probably 90% of people thought like I did and only like 3 people put in for Steens, South Juniper, etc. Haha! :)

We are going to use a portion of the money raised for winter range mule deer enforcement.

Columbia basin deer, Warner antelope and Mt Emily elk.

If it's going to be used for law enforcement I'm in. better yet add $10 to all tag prices to cover it better .

The odds will be long on most hunts but there are two things I like about this scam. You have to pick only one unit per animal and everyone only has one chance. If they raised the price per application I would still apply based on the treatment of each tag.

Oregon does hammer us as non-res. but in this application process we are on equal footing with the residents. I like it, now cough up a tag, I will make the most of it.

There are some funny comments in here, and I totally agree with you guys! This is probably the year with the best chances though..and it is a good scam, kinda like idaho's system with no preference points.

People are always harping about the poachers but if there is money to be spend it should be to reduce the number of predators. More time in helicopters nailing coyotes, cougars, and wolves is where the money should go, IMO. There are a few animals poached on their winter ranges I'm sure, but killing one cougar is how many deer or elk saved a year?

I would actually rather pay $50 or $100 for each premium app, have the odds go way down, and they still get their money...

I agree with 6pack that the money should go to LE stopping poachers, but I'd add more cougar killing with the extra money also.

+1 bonepicker. I've talked to several guys and a few outfitters and they all had this strategy. Damnit!!! Oh well, I'm all in on this scam as well!

In case any of you guys are wondering....draw results are still pending LOL!

Mt. Emily archery elk with 18 NR points. Don't expect to get it, but would be nice considering I struck out in all 8 other states with near 20 points in each. Statistically should have drawn 3 tags this year. Instead zero. No tags in last 3 years. Doing Montana leftover otherwise. Working out hard to get in shape after recent health hurdles.

I bet you will draw that Mt Emily tag. No one had 17 last year and there are two tags. Kinda off subject and all but good luck. SSS a wolf if you get the chance too.

I think they already have something like that, they call it the raffle.
But having one in each unit for deer/elk would be an awesome idea and bring in some big bucks. $100 a shot and you build points. I'd be into that.

I'm on the NR side. There were two others with 17 and someone with 19 dropped down from Weneha to take the only preference tag. Or he was a point saver. It only takes one to bump me. Thus not expecting anything.

Just for fun, I put in for the Warner unit for everything.

I am pleased to hear that a portion of the funds will go to Winter Range enforcement.
