With the holiday and having some extra days of i was thinking of running over to burns and getting some outdoor time. Has anyone been up around delintment? Alder springs campground? Howard ridge? can a guy get around or is it too deep? How about around Izee?

You can get a feel by looking at ODOT Tripcheck. road reports and cameras.

We had about 11" here in the Prineville area and it melted down to about 6" of ice. now it's snowing again. as a rule Burns is worse.

Unless it's plowed you're going to need a snowmobile to get around very much above 4,000 feet around here. and I'd be careful everywhere I tried.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-24-16 AT 07:42AM (MST)[p]It snowed here last night about 5 more inches on top of the 7-8 that was already on the ground. You would be hard pressed to get up high in a truck or jeep. Maybe a snowmobile work work? But like Tog said be careful!

If this doesn't break, and it's not in the forecast that it will this winter will be a deer killer.

Supposed to be around zero the next few nights. I noticed the cyotes are staying on top of the snow in places and the deer are breaking through. that can set up a blood bath as if the deer weren't having life hard enough already.

Too early to tell but I don't like it.

What deer? Remember it's Oregon Tog hahahaha! It is sunny here is Burns but super cold at Nights. I Was down by the Steens yesterday and the snow was crusted over and it was cold. The last few nights a lot more deer have showed up on the hill where I live in Hines. Hopefully they can all survive?

What deer exactly. we cannot stand a winterkill. we haven't had a die off in over 20 years and look where deer numbers are today, lower than after the last die of in 92/93.

There aren't 10% the deer in my field tonight there would have been 20 years ago. that's a fact, 5% is more accurate. but there are way more elk. elk seem to be ODFW resistant , you can just keep selling more tags and not wipe them out most of the time.

I had over 2 feet at my house but it had melted and settled so i could get around... until the next storm hit. decided to bag the trip and wait for better roads.
