Hey fellow hunters, I have been hearing of a lot of folks talking about the deer and elk possibly getting hit hard here in NE Oregon.
So far, animals are doing ok. Are we worried....yes we are, as we still have a lot of winter left. Long term forecast doesn't look favorable for the deer and elk neither.
Since we do guide in most of the units here in the Blues, we are patiently and cautiously keeping an eye on the critters this year.
Keep in touch and pray for a good outcome...

Thanks Bob I live over here in the Northeast too I am praying we have a good survival chukars are not surviving well. A lot of cougar kills have been found this year as well

I live in Burns and am in most of the SE units daily. It is really bad here also! The fawns are belly deep as low as they can go on the valley floors in the Steens and Juniper units.

The few deer that are left are in for a long haul. Personally I think it's over for most of the deer heards over this way. It's suppose to snow for the next week at least. There is already 2 feet as low as they can go.

I'm not sure where the Elk are I haven't seen any. I think they are all down on Ranch land somewhere. I may get in trouble for saying this but I don't really worry about them!

We will have a deer die off no question about it. how bad we'll have to see. the long term forecast is a little better but still below normal temps and plenty moisture.

It's going to be the worst since 93/93 I'll bet on that.

Stay Thirsty My Friends

I'm also very worried for the deer here in the La Grande area. It's bad. Worst that I can remember, with no end in site. I hope ODFW will respond accordingly and hold off on tag numbers. I expect fawn recruitment to be very low...
