Troutt Creek Area

My son drew the Premium Mule deer tag for the White Horse unite. We've mostly hunted the Owyhee unite north of Jordan Valley and a couple times the Whitehorse, for mule deer. Antelope strictly Whitehorse. So we're pretty familiar with the unite. We plan on two scouting trips and want to concentrate hunting the last few weeks of Nov.. The trout's we have very little knowledge of, rut, deer movements on migration and wintering areas that time of year. With the points need to hunt there, just never gave it a thought. Have hunted rocks there tho. We haven't ruled out along the Idaho boarder, but there is no need to scout that area till that migration starts. Any Info. on the trout's would really be appreciated. I'd go hunt around jordan valley on the idaho border.

The general hunt in 40 and 42 will push a lot of bucks over into oregon.

go hunt the Idaho border and send a report please when it's all over.

After hunting the Owyhee unite for about 20yrs. I know all about the roads when it rains. Thanks

I does take in the whole unite, which includes the Trout Ck. area, per reg's. From 9/1/17 - 11-30-17 But Thanks for drawing my attention to it. Was one of the first things I looked up. Gene

Scouting up-date

My son and I just got back from a four day trip into the Trouts.(it was in the high 90's) Really didn't see that many deer, probably a dozen does and one average three point. Our main goal was to get to know the area, access roads, migration routes, water and food. Also to get any info. from the bow hunters and ranchers. Pretty much figured the access routes out, which will help with different weather conditions and got some very good info. from local ranchers. Was surprised when we ran into a young gal up there by her self bow hunting, she knew the migration routes well, which will help when we're in there in mid to late November. With all this info. and being able to hunt during the rut, we both feel it's not going to be an easy hunt. Going to try to make another scouting trip again before Nov.

Would really like to here from rifle hunters that's hunted the Trouts or Oregon Canyon area

PS This is a Premium Hunt Tag, we will not be competing with anyone other than possibly a couple lottery tag holders that choose to hunt that area. After the rifle tag holders are done Oct. 11th we will probably be the only ones hunting deer in there. Any info. we receive stays in the sage!!!! Thanks Gene 503-930-1804 or [email protected]

Good luck on the hunt. Heading to the Trout Creeks tomorrow as well as my wife has also drawn the tag and I have a client with a tag.

I will say this that there will be three or four people scouting that area for Governor and Raffle tags. You should have a great time. Its a great tag. My nephew drew the Beatty's Butte Premium so I am fortunate to get to play with that tag in between all of the other hunts. Heading to the Trout Creeks tomorrow as well as my wife has also drawn the tag and I have a client with a tag.

How did you do on your Trout Creek hunt? I have always wanted to hunt it. I will have 16 points going into the 2018 draw and am thinking about cashing them in on this hunt or waiting another year or so for the Mt. Emily rut hunt.
