LAST EDITED ON Nov-22-17 AT 11:35AM (MST)[p]I have buddy that just recently moved to Grants Pass and I wanted to see about scouting out CHETCO and SIXES for ELK and Blacktail opportunities. I'm looking at doing a hunt 2-3 years out so I have plenty of time to get acclimated to the area and define the expectations on visits here and there. My preliminary searches have turned up little to no info on this place. Judging by all the fishing outfitters it seems like I should be fishing the Siskiyou area and not hunting. Anyways I'm looking for Packers that operate that area whether its with Horse or Llamas. Also are there any good reads on these areas? I want to read up and understand the environment before I call upon the Wildlife and Forest Officials.

I wouldn't hunt Chetco for elk or deer. Sixes is a good unit for elk. You won't need any pack animals as you would be hunting private timber company land and/or little tracts of BLM land. I would look to other units for blacktail hunting.

You might wanna try the soda mt wilderness for black tails pack in or walk in great hunting there is a late archery my boys hunt each year during the rut nice bucks are taken each year... just south of ashland ....
