I drew the lower owhee sheep tag 2nd season. I went back and did some scouting, but before I found the sheep my truck went over a cliff . not good. no one was in it thats good. Has anyone been in the unit or hunted it . It is big country and they can be anywhere. With know truck now I dont know when or if I can make it back again to scout. I went from the best luck in the world to the all most wosrt luck in the world. I must get redemtion, this hunt already has a good story to it and it hasnt even started yet. so if anyone could throw some info. my way it would greatly be appecaited, good luck to all you guys and park your truck-car on falt ground and trow out the ankcor parking brake, and build a burm in front of your vehical, plus put in a fence post in the ground and tie your rig to it . thats how I fell now. what a messed up situation for me . thanks shawn

What side of the river are you hunting Or are you hunting out of a boat.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------support your local guzzlers. OHA life member, lapine oregon

I have been on both sides , great country. just havent pin pointed anything yet because of my truck deal. I am game for either side, where ever the sheep are Iam willing to go . I dont have a boat but ,I can get one if needed.

With this once in a lifetime tag, I would plan on being all in. I have been a spotter for a guy with the upper owyhee sheep tag. He was not all in. He went home with a tag unfilled. I found him sheep almost every day to hunt the next. Drinking highballs in the shade at camp got him the sheep he deserved. I have the high desert elk tag for your area this year And might make time to scout a few areas west of the river. I might be able to do this when your tag is valid. I also have a cell amplifier that will operate the repeater from this remote area. If you need real help, And have the abilty. I may make the time BUT i have been disappointed in the past.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------support your local guzzlers. Well my advice is, take baltz up on his offer to help and start getting in shape now, today. If you are out of shape for a hunt like this, you will waste most of your time talking yourself out of hunts because they are "too hard". Good luck!

one of my buddies wife drew that tag last year, if you want his number to talk with him send me a p.m., she killed an "above the state average", really nice ram.

i helped a guy a few yrs ago with an upper owyhee sheep tag-- that country is f'ing hot!

i went home because the guy wouldn't get out of his truck and hunt, he stayed in the a/c and glassed from the truck. he ended up killing a 130" ram with less than a 1/2 curl- it was kinda pathetic to know that guy had a tag that 1000 others would have dreamed to have and he just waisted it.

I sure do what to make the best of this hunt . I just had a set back with the truck .I still dont know what gonna happen there but, I do know I will be hunting sheep. All your guys info. is truly like gold to me , thank you. shawn

Congrats on the hunt of ten life times Shawn!!! Your in for a treat.
Click on the link above and you will see in these pics two rams my wife and I got in 04 and 05 in the lower Owyhee. Hers scored 172 and mine was 163. There is also a pic of another friends ram I helped him on. I know this unit well and have been on 4 other hunts here. So...I will be bowhunting antelope in the area and if you need help... I love going on sheep hunts.
Regards, Tim.

Wow , tim them are some nice animals. you and your wife must put the time in . great job. I want to say thank you again guys and gals for all the addvise and help. You guys sure now how to bring a person who back into the game. After my truck deal I was wondering if I should just give up on it all, but Iam over that ,thanks. still waiting to find out what insurance is going to do. Its been declared a total loss , but they seem to be working in slow motion. Heck ,I may not have a truck by the time the hunt starts. if not I will be hunting lizard if you no what I mean . there is no jelly on my muffin or big googly eyes with a wad of cash.

Het forky! How have you been? Are you still in school? Great to hear from ya!

I wouldnt say they where nice, but I finally got it all done in a fare process. Its a new truck to me but not new, And its a ford ,no more tundras for me. keep it in the usa. Now time for sheep redemption, I hope one thing we all can learn from this . never trust your parking gear on a automatic, always use the emergencey brake. computer and mechanical things do fail . be safe and good luck hunting. shawn

Shawn,
I don't know if you remember, but we spoke on the phone about the Upper and Lower Owyhee. I have the WY bison tag.
Glad you got the truck issue worked out. Your season is coming up quick, I hope that you make the most of it. If I ever win the OR sheep lottery, I will be hunting that area again. Just too awesome of a place to only hunt once, let alone for a sheep.
Now for the unsolicited advice...as hot as it has been, I would concentrate hunting within 1 mile of the river, or even narrow it down to within 1/2 mile. Also, when I hunted that area, I located two different groups of rams by hearing them butting heads. That sound really carries in those canyons. Watching them butt heads was definitely worth the price of admission.
Did you call the biologist? He was super helpful and really a nice guy. Everybody badmouths the G&F, but those guys in that region really have it together.
Good luck.

I dont care he is great . now thats redemption at its best . Be safe guys and gals this season and stack em up. shawn
