Oregon Drawing Odds

LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-11 AT 05:23PM (MST)[p]Question..

If oregon issues only 10 tags for elk in a particular unit, do NR's have any chance at all at drawing. I dont think they do but want to ask.

Are you talking the Wenaha? if so only every other year because the outfitters will draw that tag. I think the ODFW should make this more obvious. ODFW wants the $$$$ so they make it hard to know this little fact. For example....Mount emily shows 2 non resident tags for the unit, but only one can be drawn by the general public every year because an outfitter draws this tag every year leaving actually just 1 tag available.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-24-11 AT 10:03AM (MST)[p]I know that if there is 1 tag allowed it works like that with the outfitter ever other year. I find that rediculous really.

But no, im talking about a different hunt. sent you a PM>.... nevermind... your inbox is inactive. talking about coastal range.

Travis,

I called ODFW for a friend last year to find out what tags went to outfitters in the draw. I think the draw is before the general public draw, I talked to a lady who told me that the tag I was looking at for a friend was likely to go to an outfitter, so I would call and ask.

thanks guys. ill just have to call. ive looked at that site above and it still leaves me confused as to whether or not a non res has a chance. says 1 tag for NR's but also says ...This hunt is impacted by the non-resident quota? does that mean they may not give any?

Guys, usually with a hunt with 10 tags, 1 tag is set for NR. Every other year that tag is drawn by an outfitter, the other year its drawn thru regular draw for a NR.

Call the ODFW and ask her if you have questions, its Tami 503-947-6108.

Thanks Bob. I knew it worked like that with 20 tags but wasnt sure with only 10.

Ill call them.

Ill also tell them Bob gave me the phone number. I should be guaranteed the tag then right? lol...

Wenaha bow nonresident draw looks like 50% with 16 points. Wenaha 2nd rifle %25 with 16 points. I think the 50% shows that if one nonresident has 16 points he has 50% because of the outfitter tag. I'm afraid its going to take a lot longer to draw Wenaha. I have several friends that are residents with 18+ points and still haven't drawn...with more and more people applying its getting pushed out more and more.

Not sure I buy your statement........perusing the ODFW site and looking at the stats......nobody with max points even applied last year for Wenaha bull rifle. The most points anyone who applied was 15 for rifle and 16 for bow. If your friends would have had max points it would have showed up that they had applied (even if they had 17).

The data is not showing the above 18 point statement. Makes a guy wonder if the person who claims they have 18 might be mistaken. I know one guy trying to recover a few points he claims the ODFW system lost. I think it is 2 points before the ODFW changed the points policy. He has points before and after but if he had not applied when the 2 points where not credited all points would have been lost. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------support your local guzzlers. I believe for 2010 the one and only non-res wenaha archery elk tag was drawn with 15 points at a %50 draw rate. 2011 the one and only tag went to an outfitter.

2011 Three people did apply with 15 points but some may have just went point saver knowing the tag was going to an outfitter.

Orion23 you were looking at that Melrose hunt. It is a great hunt. The tag is in the general draw this year. So it will go to a Non-resident this year. Figure as follows if the upcoming year is odd IE 2011. Figure all Major tags in Oregon go to the Outfitters. Excluding the Mt. Emily tags as there is always one for the guide pool there.

For even Numbered years Tags will go to Non-residents IE; 2012. The only tag that is not in that cycle is the Starkey Experimantal Forest Archery tag it goes to guides in Even years and Non-residents in odd years.

Hope this helps
