I don't need anyone to tell me there special spot but I would like to here some of your thoughts on wether or not this tag warrants 6 points. For the record I have no intention of waiting 11 years to kill a bull, I think there are a select few units ou t there that have potential for a 300 class bull for 4-6 points if you work hard for it and I will. I prefer big open steep country that I can glass and most people would shy away from, i hate crowds! Is this the unit for me?

Thanks in advance!

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

That unit can get hit hard by hunters with friends. ATV's going everywhere they are not suppose to be. Other people may have more info than me. Good luck with whatever unit you put in for.

I would stay away from Starkey. If you want an area that is not crowded, you need to look at some of the bigger wilderness areas in Oregon. Hell's canyon area, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, North Fork John Day Wilderness, Steens Mountain wilderness etc. Genearlly speaking, you'll be looking at the steepest, wildest stuff that Oregon has and not many people. With less accessibility comes fewer people. However, just because it's wilderness doesn't mean is crawling with elk and deer, they will often stay out of the nasty stuff too. I've been in many of the wilderness areas in eastern Oregon and I would say you have a decent chance at killing a 300"+ bull in most of them but you will have to work your tail off for it and may not get anything. Good luck!

There are some good areas to hunt if you are willing to walk in a few miles or have access to horses. We have had good luck on several very nice bulls. Just need to be willing to work for them. Road closure areas are the key. I will PM you.

I bow hunt that unit every year and yes you do have a chance at at 300 class bull. However were we hunt its very timbered. Not much glassing oportunities and there is a lot of blow down.
