Just curious if anyone out there has hunted North Juniper for deer and what you thought about the hunt. I'm debating in putting in for the tag.

I've never hunted it during the season but I would guess that many of the deer during that time will be hanging out on or near private land (alfalfa fields, etc) Water will also be a big factor. It's alot of sage and some trees in places. Funny that the unit is called "Juniper" because it probably should be called "Sage". I know that there is potential for some great bucks in there. I've been in there during the winter and spring and have seen some deer in there. Quite a bit of private land in the north end of the unit but still plenty of BLM and not many people out there which makes it nice. Might be worth a try.

Pretty tough hunt on public land. Maybe tougher than the majority of the desert units due to the fact that the deer will be heavily concentrated on the North and North East portions of the unit in Alfalfa fields - especially on a dry year like this. I have some friends that live in the unit that have drawn the last two years - they end up shooting bucks out of their alfalfa the last weekend after not seeing much on public land.

If you draw the tag i have some old scouting data i'll share. On public land do not expect to see a lot of deer. But i'll guess the best big buck opportunity will be on public. Stop into the BLM office west of hines for the latest maps, you will need them.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------support your local guzzlers.
