I have 8 deer points in oregon and was looking for a good blacktail outfitter. I prefer do it your self hunts but living in GA makes scouting a bit difficult so an outitter is probably the smarter choice to get a nice one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

There's really only one Blacktail tag that you need that many points for, and you have about a 50% chance at it with 8. Sorry I can't help with an outfitter, but if you want a good Blacktail you can do that OTC with a bow and have a great hunt. Good thing is that I dont think there's too many outfitters to choose from, so it shouldn't take too long to weed though them. If your hearts set on a Blacktail, try the bow first OTC. Then you will have a better idea what you up against before you cash out on 8 points.

Look up Spoon Crk Outfitters in southern Oregon. They have ranches leased in the Applegate unit I believe.

the good part about an archery tag is you can hunt august and then in Nov for the rut...

The best blacktail tag in oregon other than the rifle rut hunts that take a lot of nonresident points. Is the 119A high cascade tag. You should have a fair chance of drawing it as the second choice and save your points. I have a 53% chance of drawing the 119A and if i do, will be setting up deer camp for the hunt. It is a hunt where a guide is not needed. But access to remote wilderness can leed you to need horses to pack in/out. Tough hunt in very thick-steep country. Any mature blacktail is a trophy if you have hunted blacktail before. An outfitter might get you into deer or it might just drain your pocket. >I have 8 deer points in

LAST EDITED ON Apr-24-12 AT 09:46PM (MST)[p]Do Not, Do Not, DO NOT, book Southern Oregon Game Busters, Doug Gattis, Medford, Oregon!!!

Lazy, incompetent , cranky, whiner of a guy, who probably was descent 20 years ago.

Broken ATVs, (had to go back home and get mine) doesn't have a clue on how to download game cameras, and has a whole 160 acres of leased land which has motorcycle riders, ,mountain bikers, target shooters, and heavy equipment garage/construction business and house with out buildings located within!

I guarantee Doug will tell you about all his physical ailments, complain if you bring a piece of dirt, or weed into his house or vehicle and preach of the "Good Old Days" and beg you to extend your hunt.

I saw many does, few spikes, and a couple of two point yearling bucks in eight days during the late muzzleloader rut hunt in Applegate following all of the outfitters' pointers.

Not the hunt I was looking for when I burned my 8 non-res points.

Great info, I have watched this post with the same question about outfitters.
As a NR with a bunch of points I am leaning towards a blacktail or columbia whitetail hunt, not this year but down the road a bit.
Thank You
Rick
