Who's been taking advantage of the additional bonus point(s) for their kids between the ages of 9-12?

I only wish my kids were still that young! Heck I wish my grands kids were that young again!
I doesn't help me out, but I sure would hope that the parents that do have kids that age take advanatage of the additional points deal.

Kids between 9-12 can get a "free" bonus point each year through the ODFW. You can apply on-line or fax in the sheet that is downloadable on their site.

So by the time they are 12 they can have up to 4 bonus points and 4 "regular" purchased points which can be used on all or one species.

I didn't know that was an option, thanks. My daughter will need them just to draw a youth tag! She's 12 and it takes 6 points to draw a good mule deer youth tag.

Lets see me nephew Justice Burnt his mentor points for Interstate Youth and killed a real real nice 4x4. Next Nephew Sage Currently has 4pp and 5 Youth Mentor Points. So he will have nine when we turn them in.
My youngest hunter currently has 4 and 4 he will have 12 for one hunt when we turn them in. So this is a great deal.

I've been looking on ODFW website, but I'm unable to find anything about this. Can someone please post the link.

I have a 14yo son that should take advantage of this neat opportunity. I've been getting him his youth PP's when he doesn't draw a tag..but have never heard of a second PP option.

Thank you for the reply, I read right past the 9-12 part. That still leaves my friends kids.

Can anyone post the link for me, I'll pass it along to him.

This is for the mentored program.

Mentored Youth Preference Points

"Youth participating in the mentored youth hunting program will receive one mentored youth preference point for each year the youth registers for the program. The mentored youth preference points will be ?banked? and held in the licensing system with no expiration date.

To redeem banked points, the mentored youth will be required to fill out a form supplied by the department's License Services Section that clearly states what species the mentored youth wants their mentored youth preference points moved to. Points must be used at one time and may not be split among species. Once Mentored Youth Preference Points are redeemed, they are converted to the Preference Point System and are subject to the Oregon Administrative Rules that govern preference points."

I just copied pasted it from the above link

I was reviewing the data from last year for the youth hunts and was surprised to see kids drawing youth hunts (age 12-17) with 10-12 points. They must have been collecting extra pts via this mentored youth program to accumulate that many by age 16 or 17.

I put my son in for the N Bank Habitat black tail tag this year, anyone have experience hunting in there?

Dave,
I applied my 9 year old daughter for a mentor point this year and they way I understood it the most points she can build and use before she loses her junior status is 9 (4 mentor for ages 9-12 and 5 regular ages 12-17). You mention that your youngest hunter will have 12 when he turns them in?

Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Matt

PS. ODFW gets bashed (deservedly) for a lot of things, but in my opinion, they definitely get it right for Junior hunters.
