Anyone know when Oregon posts the draw stats?

No MMer drew the NR archery elk tag for Mt. Emily? Didn't see anyone post.

Thanks!

Looks like there were only 4 of us 14 point holders apply for Mt. Emily archery elk. Seems like I remember 3 others who posted on here they were trying so must be a MMer.

Question for the draw experts. On the draw reports there are no applicants with 0 points. So I always assumed if you had 0 points they gave you the point for the current year and you were therefore in the group with one point. This would hold true on up through the various point totals. So if you had 10 points going into the draw you would be awarded your eleventh point prior to the draw.

In the case of non-resident Wenaha Bow, there were 12 first time applicants with one point. I assume the seven applicants with eleven points went into the draw with 10 and were awarded their eleventh with their 2012 application.

I had 16 going into the draw and was unsuccessful. Obvoiusly I was one of the 4 unsuccessful applicants with sixteen point not the one successful 17 point applicant. How am I misunderstanding the Oregon draw system?

You don't aquire points till after the draw. If you have zero going in for 2012 and you dont draw a tag, you will have one in 2013.

The Wenaha Bow the 12 applicants with one point were on their second attempt. Their first attempt would be with zero points.

If you applied for it with 16, you had 16, you will have 17 in 2013.

There was one non-resident with 17, they did draw according to the report. What that means to you is if they only give one tag per year and the same people apply next year you will have a 25% chance with 17 points in 2013. There will be 4 with 17, and 8 with 16.

That all makes sense and is what I would have to assume, but why don't they show the aplicants with zero points, the first time applicants?

And its one tag every other year so it could be 2020 before I tag out assuming nobody drops out or no other point savers join the group. Looks like there are 7 ahead in the point savers and 17 in my point pool. If they are archers it could be a very long long time.

I guess they only show apps with points. You are correct with how long it could take for you to draw. Hope the wolves don't ruin it before you do.

Between the draw odds, the every other year BS and now the wolves it makes you wonder why non-res's are even trying with less than 14 or so points.

Oh well there is alway MT. Emily. Right Zim?

I applied for the same tag this year with zero points as a resident. Need a point for next year so I thought I may as well put my name in the hat for the 25% pool. I had a .20% chance to draw, needless to say I will have my point for next year.

Ya if I read the stats right there weren't any higher point holders jump into Emily. You would be about guaranteed to draw. But then again I thought the same thing in Utah this year with 15 deer points for a 12 point unit. Somebody dropped down and bumped me!

My plan is to hold out for wenaha. So your safe from me. Seems like if a guy applies for almost 20 years the unit better be dang nabbit good. Things could change with the wolves moving in. Or maybe some year I'll desperately want an elk tag come May 15.

In any case good luck in the future.

The only good thing about Oregon is there aren't enough decent tags for SFW to bother to swoop in and steal them for auction. I just want out of their game like everyone else. If I do ever get to burn my elk points, I'll probably just dump all these worthless deer & lope points. Just the way it is.

Any MMer ever show up here with the Emily tag?

I did end up pulling an 11th hour rabbit out of my hat. Of all places, drew a New Hampshire bull moose tag. I had a 1% chance! Slammer unit with 90% success rate. Not the western hunt I had in mind, but it will work! Plus as a bonus drew a zone 5 Iowa deer tag.
