Any new input on this unit for archery elk. With Oregon not budging on the nonres tag allocations I am starting to think that chasing the Mt Emily tag is to long of a journey for me. I hate to burn my 12 points on a sub par hunt but killing a 300 rosey would work for me compared to waiting 5-10 more years for maybe no better a bull on the eastside. I live in pretty good roosevelt country that I can hunt every year so it would have to be pretty good to convince me to use my points on a similar hunt in Oregon. Any input? Thanks nwHunter

If I were you I would put in for Walla Walla archery elk tag! Everyone I know thats hunted it has killed something over 340...it only takes 13 points to draw.

just my 2 cents

Ok thats why I asked hoping to get input and I got it. Thanks for the help and I will decide what to do with this in mind. When you see how many guys have 12 plus points and with 1 or 2 or no tags each year it could be a long wait. nwhunter

you and a friend could put in together for one of the other limited archery hunts. 6 points should get you ochoco etc

That is a thought I have had. My 13 year old boy is a huntin fool and wants to bowhunt elk and I would split my points with him in a unit that we could have a good opportunity hunt for descent bulls. Just hard to give up on what I had planned for but yet such a long wait and more expensive every year.

There are big bulls on the Powers, 350 plus bulls. It just depends if you live closer to powers or emily or walla walla. The wolves this past year pushed elk out of the walla walla and wenaha into Mt. Emily. It depends on what you can scout more effectively, but bear the wolves in mind. Powers unit no wolves. JB

The ochoco is a waste of time, too many tags for not enough elk. If I was in your position as a Non res, I would do a pack in trip for snake second season rifle.. Good opportunity as a 300 in bull and a great expirience. You won't draw ME or WW as a non resident for another 5-10 years. Your only other option is to buy the tag from an outfitter, which would probably be cheaper in the long run than buying points.
