Beulah for Deer

Hey guys,

I am looking to do some buck hunting in Beulah this next year (provided I draw) and was looking for any kind of insight as to places to start. It's a large unit, and I would like to get away from crowds if possible. I will be spending lots of time scouting and calling biologists, etc but thought I would at least check here and see if anybody can provide some information for me. Thanks!!

It's a big unit with lots of private land to the east. it's not a great deer unit but about as good as any in my opinion.

I spent a few days with a buddy in the west end of it last year during the second elk hunt. what few deer I saw were starting to rut and the two bucks I saw were dinks. nobody in the group said they saw a buck they'd shoot. but seeing a buck at all is good by Oregon standards anymore.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-13 AT 10:41AM (MST)[p]I have hunted this zone for decades and had average success depending on year, rain fall/snow fall and numbers of other hunters.
I stopped hunting in OR when they doubled the costs for tags and lic. fees. These costs are not warranted because of the dropping deer numbers and the history of few bucks in the books coming from this zone.
It is a big zone with loads of private property, where I have seen most of the better bucks and bulls. I usually hunted public lands (mostly wilderness areas by myself)and when the ATVs were not running all over the mountains, I did very well.
The years when the road shooters were driving all over the wilderness areas illegally and driving all the game off the mountains onto the surrounding private ranches, I usually got skunked.
The chances of scoring on a 30" buck is slim to none, but taking a 4x4 in the 24" range is very doable...
Good luck.
