While out doing some shed hunting in NE Oregon near the snake river, we came across TONS of elk out feeding in the canyons. On the way back to town we noticed a small herd of 8 cows and one bull about 250yrs off the gravel road. I pulled over so the boys could take a look.

The bull started walking towards our truck and then walked back and forth along the fence line, as we sat there in shock. I decided to get out of the truck and see how close I could get.

Long story short, we touched, fed, scratched and fondled that bull for over 20 minutes! The cows stood back calling and running back and forth the entire time we were there! At one point the young bull pissed all over himself like he was in the rut! BTW there are NO elk farms here in NE Oregon. Here's some pics of our "once in a life time" adventure...

I believe it... but I can't believe it! :)

wow. what a neat experience. I'd love to hear a biologist weigh in on why this type of extraordinary behavior would occur... anyone?

I caught this thread also over on ifish. Very cool experience. Hope your son has a great time on his elk hunt on that ranch. Looking forward to hearing the story and seeing more pics later this year.
