Interstate Muzzleloader

Guys,
I was wondering what folks thought about the new Interstate muzzleloader hunt in the 2014 Regs? I'm one of those non-resi's stuck in limbo. Not enough points (I have 14)for Metolious archery or NE Whitehorse muzzleloader and searching for something to use them on.

Is it too early to catch the migration? Would the extra week or two past the rifle hunt make that much of a difference?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Hammnit

you can PM me for more info but with those points I would consider Metolius muzzleloader. Next year the season is later and with a bit of snowfall up high it can get the big ones coming down for a good hunt

Thanks for the response BB. That was suggested by someone else too. The unfortunate part of this is that I'm a non-resi and we only get a tag every other year. The tag went to a non-resi this year, so no tag for us in 2014.

If you will be happy with a 23 inch 4x4 then you might give it a try. Personally I hate these new muzzleloader hunts that are just after the rifle hunts. My friends son had the youth tag last year. That hunt is in november. He killed a 21 inch 4x4 on the sixth day. They found 2 quality bucks on private ground but were denied access at both places. I think there are better hunts out there. Even some of the eastern Oregon rifle hunts should be better than that interstate hunt IMHO.

I agree that the new Muzzy hunt isn't anything to get too excited about. I do however like that it is an option. I would like to see a muzzy hunt in every unit. I would rather muzzy hunt most any unit the week after rifle is over than hunt the rifle season. It would spread out the points more too.

I would rather they restructure the entire season and put archery first, muzzleloader second, then rifle, then late muzzleloader, then late archery. Cut the rifle hunts to 7 days or less, muzzleloaders get 14 days, archery a month.

I agree. I can understand why people would rather hunt a muzzleloader tag with 25 other hunters afield insted of a rifle hunt with 500+ tags. But the deer numbers in these units are to low to make it a quality hunt that time of year. If they put the muzzleloader hunts in the rut and only gave out ten tags they would create demand and draw attention from other popular hunts. Points would get burned and point creep might improve.
