I was lucky to score this 2014 Oregon Public Land Archery Bull. My best to date.

Thanks for the comments guys. It is with a humble heart and a passion for these incredible animals that I share this story.

My buddy and I hunted hard for 10 days before I connected. We put countless miles under our boots. We had some close calls including a 5 yard encounter with a small 6X6.

The weather was warm and the elk weren't talking much except for early morning and later evening. We've all been there. It was time to change it up so I took to the treestand over a wallow.

I have been blessed to take 3 other bulls with my bow over the years, but nothing like this.

I've never taken an elk from a treestand before so I was thinkin, "Why am I doin this?" As time went on I was thinkin, "Why did I even haul this thing in here?"

About 11:50 am, I heard a bugle across the canyon. I bugled back. He fired back almost cutting me off. I then followed up with some hyperhot with intentions of leading him to believe someone was in his jacuzzi with one of his girls and she was ready for action.

He fired back closer yet, and then again. I'm thinkin, "This is goin to happen." Little did I know he wasn't alone as he pushed his harem into the waterhole. Another bull up the ridge fired off with a bugle. As he stood in the wallow drinking, he fired back with a bugle and chuckle. He offered no shot.

His harem consisted of 14 cows and calves. Lots of eyes, ears and noses at less than 10 yards. I expected to get busted at any minute as this dream unfolded before me.

The bull up the ridge fire off again, soliciting another bugle. He then stepped out quartering away strong almost leaving me nothing but a butt shot. As I came to full draw, a cow caught my movement and looked right at me.

Having practiced and feeling confident in my shot, I was able to push one through in front of the left hip into the powerhouse. He ran 50 yards before falling over like an old growth Ponderosa pine.

I captured the whole event on video.

After 12 years of bow hunting and "chasing the dream", I have set the bar at a level I've never imagined.

This bull was 47 inches wide with 47 and 46+inch beams. He had a fresh gouge and fracture under one of his eyes and bruising across his face under the cape and a broken 5th on his right beam. His hide showed fresh battle scars as well.

The day before, my buddy and I saw a bull all alone that made this one look small. I believe the bull up the ridge was the bull chasing and the one responsible for the damage.

If you have a passion for archery elk hunting like I do, dream, and chase that dream until it becomes a reality!
