Youth Cow hunt Success

Saturday morning we found ourselves out for our first chance to get on my son's youth cow tag. Between Football and other commitments it became our first shot and maybe last chance till late December to get out. I did not think we would have a great shot at getting one. But as it started to get light and about a mile from the truck we found our first elk. Color looked like a cow but through the spotting scope it became a rag horn. I knew we must be close to the herd as the rut should still be happening. We were about another mile in when we heard a bugle coming from over the next ridge. I said lets go see them. As we topped the ridge we could see a few cows down below us at about 300 yards. Then the Bull let out a bugle, he was between us and the cows and was fired up. He pushed the cows over the next ridge and we took off over there to see if we could cut them off. As soon as we topped the next ridge we saw elk. They were about 60 yards in front of us. We took our time as they had no idea we was there. The rest is history. Other than the pack out! :)

Cripes. Filling the freezer one day, and scoring tds the next. What a life! Congrats. BTW....Get some lemon juice for him, it will help wipe the smirk off his face. LOL. Just kidding.
