LAST EDITED ON Aug-22-14 AT 12:48PM (MST)[p]well we saw this dude last night he stood still long enough for my son to get a straight on shot at 30yrds i heard the arrow go deep into the buck he hunched up n then bolted we lost him last night but came back in the morning and found him 80 yrds from impact, anybody have that happen before loosing s deer then finding him in the morning, and was the meat still good to eat...?

the arrow entered his chest as you can see but it kept going into his gut, so we follow the smell first thing in the morning n found a magpie on him...?

if it was a hot night I don't think I would chance on the meat but im not an expert on that if it smells bad don't try it at least you got the antlers put a tag on it and call it a hunt

Heck of a Cali buck! I would give it the smell test. It wasent that hot last night. Ask the butcher when you take the meat in. Congrats on a stud buck.

What the other side of the fence?
Your boy a cali resident?
Surprised a bear was not on it.

The meat should be fine as long as you took care of it first thing.

BZZZZZ! OH, WRONG, sorry about that! ...and thanks for playing the guess how this meat will taste game! Let's review the options:

A. meat should be fine
B. meat might be ok or at least parts of it
C. meat will taste like $hit

In another thread about this buck, Manny reported after a taste test, that answer "C" is the correct answer. Too bad that hunting-shooting is not an exact science. Things do happen from time to time! At least the buck was recovered, a nice buck!!

i'm no meat specialist; but the arrow was in the gut and opened up the gut, we followed the smell the next morning turns out that night we were heading the wrong direction, go figure, we looked till !0 or 11pm for the record that was very disappointing, i was looking forward to some back strap an jerkey, the butcher shop said don't chance it but i did anyways it had a sour taste to it...
