A good start to our rainy season. In the SF Bay Area south Fremont near the Tesla Car Plant in my backyard rain gauge these are the totals. The Storm after Thankgiving gave us 3.75 inches of rain. The big storm last Thursday/Friday was intense here. My gauge registered 4.75 inches total rainfall. The Santa Cruz mountains 30 minutes away as well as San Bruno and many places in Marin and Mendicino counties got 10 to 14 inches of rain. With this storm we got the high winds 45-50mph after midnight Wednesday into Thursday AM. When the rain started the wind layed down to calm. Then it just rained and rained.
Our current storm: started raining here in Fremont last night about 10pm. Been raining steady all night. Registered 1.25 inches on my gauge at 7:30 AM this morning after 9.5 hours of rainfall and it's still raining some. Heaviest rain went through about 4AM. So far my gauge has registered 9.75 inches this season.....keep it coming.....that's more than we registered here all last year.

Unfortunately "here" we have little water storage for drinking water, we get most of our water from wells and 20% from SF water supply.. Glad it's also raining where it counts and starting to put some snow in the mountains. What's your rain or snow totals?
))))------->

I'm in Lassen Co, just over the line from Plumas Co. This whole area is a major watershed of Lakes Almanor, Oroville, many smaller ones, then the Feather River which joins the Sac down in the Valley.

Lots of rain, no totals to give but we've had lots! Currently, there is about 6" of snow still on the ground in town with a considerable amount having melted already.

If we wanted a good start to a wet Winter, all indications from here says that we have one! :)

Oilcan, I haven't been over to Chester, where i check lake levels, in over a week so, i don't know. The creeks are flushing full, got to be raising levels but then i don't know what PG & E is letting out at the Dam and down to Butt lake...

Since before my earlier post, today it's been a nice genial snow.

Just starting to sprinkle here in Santa Barbara County. We'd like at least 3/4 of an inch from this storm. Supposed to go shooting in a few but just not sure if the weather will hold out. :(

that is a classic. We can't afford to let one drop thru sorry maybe next year. The water problem has gotten so bad we all drink our whiskey straight no more water chaser.

Rain came back here in Fremont about 4pm yesterday. Sounded pretty go on the roof 7pm to 9pm with showers thru the night. Guess I got spoiled from the past storms last three days here only logged 0.65 inches. Total now is 10.35 inches here in South Fremont near Tesla Factory. I know places across the bay netted over an inch+. So many micro-climates here in the SF Bay Area. This is actually more normal for us even though this is the wettest December ever recorded....keep it coming we need all we can get......sounds like more rain in the late afternoon today. How you guys doing up away from the cities with rain and snow?

It feels and looks very much like Winter in these parts. The heavy rain and blowing snows have calmed down but it remains overcast thru the days and snow does continue, be it not amounting to much down lower here in town.

Looks like the Man is calling for continued moisture thru the coming weekend and then maybe the Sun will once again come out and make a decent showing.

One other nice thing about this pattern that we are going thru, the temps during the days and nights are staying at the near freezing level instead of the 20 degrees below -0- type temps that we can and do often get. Right now, just after 9:30AM, it's 30 degrees outside and last night near midnight, it was 28, not bad at all.

Here in Eureka we're about 150% of normal for this time of year but we haven't had any flooding. Just steady rain. Ruth Lake is at max. (our water supply) so the drought is over for us. We now have a 2 year supply if it quits raining right now.

The rain we get on the immediate coast has no affect on California's drought situation. Only what falls inland and in the Sierra's counts.

We need 50' of snow in Joey's yard to end the drought. Sorry Joey, LOL!!!! You can come down here and live on Dungeness crab if it gets that bad buddy!

It's written in the good Book that we'll never be asked to take more than we can. Sounds like a good plan, so bring it on!

Steve, you know that i might stretch things a bit from time to time? 50' is a good amount but you know how i love them Dungeness! I don't think i even got a good feed last year, life is too short to be missing out on them crabs, even if they are expensive as hell by the time they get here to this country.

I've been here long enough to have had to, several years, shovel snow not down but up off the roof of my cabin. There was no more room for the snow to slide off and no need to get a ladder out, one had to shovel it up and away or worry the roof would give in from the excessive weight as it did to a lot of places.

Those next Springs, a decent laborer could just about name his price. There was a lot of rebuilding going on, those heavy snow years brought lots of water and lots of needed work.

I'll keep my tape measure handy! ;-)

This morning, we're getting hammered pretty good with snow from the front edge of a bigger storm coming thru. They are calling for less than a inch of snow today but that already proved to be way too conservative a prediction. :)

Jester, i don't know if they still seed the clouds or not. You don't hear them talking about it like they used to...

They still run the iodized machinery atop Barker Pass, on the west side of Lake Tahoe. I believe that it's run by water agencies from the greater Reno/Fallon, Nevada area.
Much of the water that goes down the Truckee River to Pyramid Lake in Nevada, is used for agriculture.

I live about 90 miles south of eelgrass right where hiway 1 meets the 101 so far this year we've got right at 40" of rain.

Hey was that 40 inches a typo? We got 11 inches here in Fremont. You in San Mateo County or Marin? Know you guys got hammered with a ton of rain....

Bummer no more "Clark Ranch" :)

))))------->

I'm fairly certain that 40" is not a typo as they have been hammered.

It started raining here Friday night and has not let up since. It's pouring even now. Keep it coming!

It was sunny but never got above 20 degrees here today. Snow with high winds supposed to come thru here tonight and into tomorrow. I think it's too cold to snow very much.

I was over to Susanville yesterday and was noticing that we ain't got much when it comes to looking like winter around these parts. There just a skiff of packed snow on the pass, nothing down low, and here we are with another bluebird day be it a bit cool.

I see on the 10 day forecast, maybe a couple days of 10 or 20% chance of rain but this time of year, it could be snowing some every day and usually there might be 3-4' of packed down on the ground here in town.

We got a pretty good start to the season with some great rains but it sure seems to be petering out.

Joey

Joey, I was thinking the same thing. We went from near flood stage to nothing! I took a drive down to the South Fork of the Eel looking for steelhead. The river is dropping fast and getting too clear. Some nice fish being caught though. I may wet a line again tomorrow.

Eel

Eel, i read in the fish sniffer that supposed to be lots of steelies in the Eel. You getting them or are they FOS?

We're screwed! Unless we get a lot more moisture than we got out of this past couple days little weather fly bye, and soon, we're screwed water wise in this part of the state. I believe the early rains might show we have had the moisture of a decent year to date but as i mentioned before, there is very little snow pack and what could of the big rains earlier, has already ran off.

I read in the official forecast, 10 more straight days with no moisture predicted. Again, not good!
