This gorgeous painting depicts Harold Laird's 319 4/8" B&C buck taken in Mariposa County in 1972.

Wow. It's hard to believe that a deer that big could come from CA. I remember seeing the pics of the top three from Ca. that Hunter Harry posted a couple of years ago. They are all huge.

The Laird buck was harvested about 20 miles from my house . Several years ago a junior hunter harvested a brute in the same area , I believe it was just under 210''. Quite a few of my friends spend a lot of time in the area photographing the deer on their winter range and shed hunting during the spring . Iv seen the photos and held some of the sheds , very impressive to say the least . The Yosemite deer herd that gets hunted in G-37 has some incredible genetics , unfortunately we've had many poor winters and the deer don't migrate in time for the hunters to have much of an opportunity to hunt a true CA giant .
