Myself, on the right with a nice Forkey and Rich with a Heavy 3x3. Both, real nice Blackie bucks for that area.

What were you doing 30 years ago? Post em up! Thanks,

Joey

Can't remember the exact year but it would have been around 83/84 I shot my first buck in the areas of the infamous Doyle grade.

The other 49 weekends of the year were spent chasing German Browns my dad was a fishing nut and still is.In my younger years he all ways tried to be the first person on each lake as soon as the roads were cleared or the ice was off the lake, this pic is on the dam at stampede lake the road to the ramp is still snowed in but pop used block and tackle attached to the guard rail to slide the boat down the snow and to pull it back up with the truck.Where there's a will there's a way many times we broke ice on that lake to be first on the water.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-15 AT 09:31AM (MST)[p]6X7, Very Cool Pics! My Grandpa on my Mom's side loved to get in the mountain lakes early as well and he used to kid me that i was his "fishing guide". I remember the first year Antelope Lake was open for business. We hammered em! :)

Steve, every once in awhile, a guy posts a picture that makes my day. You just done it for me. That ain't but a mile or two from where i lived these past 30+ years. Looks like your efforts paid high dividends! Awesome!

Bossbrott, sure would like to see your pic(s)? If you email it to me, i can probably get it up later today. Gods be with me, i actually have a busy work day today, couldn't come at a better time! :)

Did you guys notice the difference in capes of Rich and my Bucks? My buck was a marginal "shooter" but the way he looked back at me with that beautiful white face while giving me a now or never shot, he reminded me of a big old muley buck i'd taken and i'll admit that there was a bit of ground shrinkage when i walked up on him. :)

Lets see some more guys! Don't have to be exactly 30 years!

25 or so years ago......1st and second bucks. Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness. Hotter than hell. Amazingly, I was able to kill bucks without Kuiu or Sitka gear.

My God, Jackpot! That second buck is a smoker! Congrats on getting a true Blacktail of that proportion. Have you ever bettered that buck thru the years? Thanks!!

Funny......My dad told me I would probably never kill a better blacktail than that. As a 13 yr old kid, I was kind of thinking "yah right". I have taken a few that score in the same neighborhood, but none with that big of a frame. Big bodied deer too. Bedded in a dry, nasty canyon that we jumped him out of.

Blacktail, Yeah, i did notice the huge body size too and i do like the meat but with a trophy rack like that, i wouldn't care if he dressed out at 60 pounds. :)

That there is the kind! Thanks!!

The buck was taken in D-4 in 1983. He was shot at the tail end of a snow storm as the deer were migrating down from the high country. The taxi green scored him at 192 and change. 30 1/2 " outside tip to tip.
