Just discovered last Friday (6-12-15) my brother and I had been drawn for the M3 muzzleloader hunt. I know it's early but just reaching out to anyone that is willing to provide some ideas, pictures, and or information on this hunt. Any information would greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and consideration.

I hope you get tons of weather.... since I will be there also.

I love pics so anyone that can share m3 pics post away.

Broles, Welcome to M Muleys.

Though the hunt is just a couple dozen miles away from where i live, i've not held back my points to hunt that season. There has been several guys here that have drawn that hunt and made good hunt reports back to us guys here that are either not so lucky or that, like me, choose to burn there points more often.

Now that you have posted asking for help, your best next best bet is to look back thru the years and see what guys said about their hunts. Here's one year, click on below link, couple years ago. There's more just for the looking.

Also, if possible, please do your own hunt report on how you enjoyed your own hunt with pictures being the icing on the cake. Thanks and good luck getting a dream Buck!

Roles,
I'm just wondering what kind of sexual favors you guys had to do to get two of the random tags for M3? ?

Hope you kill a couple of gaggers!

I just found out all my preference points just got burned up on the m3 draw , first time I went there was a junior antlerless hunt 25 years ago, a couple of my family and friend have been several times since. Now I have some homework to do., can't wait to go back, any info would be appreciated. Thanks Ethan

Great tag for cali, had it last year. Weather is definately needed to make it great, but that being said we didnt get it last year and i still managed to kill a nice buck, there will be plenty of bucks weather it gets weather ir not but the quality gets better with weather.

I drew me in 2010 and killed a great buck along with two guys that I met through the hunting fool. I guide that hunt and a few other select hunts and have many pics from the last few years. PM me if you would like more jnfo or pics.

Any idea how much snow has fallen up in the Dixie Refuge? From what I can tell it looks like the last two storms have dropped somewhere around a total of 12-14" up on top. Can anyone confirm this? Looks like next week if the forecast is accurate we may get another 12-16 inches of snow on top too, but it's a little early with that forecast to put much hope on it...we'll see though.

Good buck from last Saturday.

Last Saturday I seen a good anmount of rut activity. A few good bucks, this was the best one. 4x6 with good mass and good forks. seen a couple that were wider but weak forks and less mass, should be interesting to see it now with a good amount of snow up there.

T1t,

When did you take these pictures? Date? Was it before the snow they received in early November? Do you have a tag yourself this year?

I do not have the tag, I just spend a lot of time up there. Pictures were taken Sunday the 8th, the day before the snow hit.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I will be up there hunting also.Good luck to everyone that's hunting M3. Share any pictures during the hunt would be awesome. 530-520-8157

Here is my m3 buck, just couldn't pass it, even though it's just a fork. Just a hairs breadth under 30". I'd like to see some more pictures. Thanks Ethan

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-15 AT 07:31PM (MST)[p]On day 6 and after passing on a lot of bucks, including a buck with a 3 inch kicker that made him 30 inches I took this 3 pt below. The 30 inch buck I passed on had crabby backs and just didn't do it for me. During the hunt I was after a 3x4 that was close to 30 inches, but I just couldn't get it done on him after several tries. Although he almost died on a couple occasions, but each time something messed the situation up.

When I saw this big wide 3 pt pushing a couple of does through deep snow I put a stalk on them and got within 120 yards. They had no idea I was there and knew that if I passed this buck with 3 days left I'd likely regret it. So, I shot him and I couldn't be happier.

Congratulations, that is another awesome doyle buck, how wide is is? I wouldn't have passed that one either. Thanks for sharing

That's a chunk er for sure. Glad you put a good one down. His tines are pretty long. 160" on a 3x3 is pretty damn good.

A wise old drunk man hanging out at the Bucks inn in Doyle once told me he never tasted a good recipie for horns so just shoot something and have fun!

Both of those bucks are solid bucks guys, i'd be very pleased with either if had been my tag to hunt. Congrats!

4x4, did you include mass measurements for those tall g-2's? i ask because some don't know that all deer get four mass measurements per side regardless if he's only a forky or what have you. i would have guessed him closer to 170 than 160 myself, nice!

I did only take three mass measurements. He's at the taxidermist right now getting boiled, but I'm guessing that fourth mass measurement will make him 166-168". I'll double check once he's back.

Great Bucks guys! It says something that not all great bucks make that magical 180 inch mark, but are still amazing trophies. A 30" forky! a giant 3x3 will always turn me on over a typical 4x4! Good job guys and way to go home with no regrets.

I sent my fotky to the taxidermist to get it mounted. I didn't score it, when I get it back I'll see if I can't get a score on it just out of curiosity. The Boone and Crockett record is 190, I would love to see that one. Guessing mine may be closer to 140.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-15 AT 03:24PM (MST)[p] Thank you all for the information that was provided to me regarding this hunt.Congratulations to those successful hunters out there that hunted this unit.
Ethan, I'm glad you caught up with that folky after we spoke. That's a really nice folk.
Bwht4X4, that's an awesome looking 3X3 too. Hard to pass on that buck.
My brother and i also had an pretty exciting hunt. We had our families on this trip with us for the hunt and also celebrated thanksgiving as well.
I will follow up with some pictures soon of my 28" 4X4 and my brothers 28-1/2" 5X5.

Brian,
I'm glad I saw Hammit's name on here. I would have passed right over your post. You and your brother are good men and I am glad you were drawn for a coveted tag. Hope all is well. Tell the Gridley chapter of CDA I said hi! Look forward to the pics!
