Good afternoon folks. I drew an archery tag for X5B this year. This will be my second archery deer hunt. I am going up the first part of July to scout and hopefully one more time after that. Could anyone tell me what the the spring/early summer weather has been like up there? If I remember correctly, there was a fire in the unit back in 2012. How has the foliage/grasses recovered from the burn?

The vegetation has been excellent this spring with allot of moisture. On the north sides of the hills anyways. From what I have seen with a couple of trips out that way the deer are very scattered. If you can get out there a couple of times to scout, you shouldn't have any problem finding some deer.

Congrats on the tag, had a good buddy hunt that last year saw a lot of good bucks I'll get him to pm u he obviously didn't draw again this year he will give u some good info

Great moisture the last month.

If I had the tag (never will) I'd start on the top of Shinn Mt. Glass the south in the AM and north facing slopes in the evening. I'd work my way towards Rush Mt.

3 days, just classing early and late you should cover most of it. Best thing is if you find a good one he should still be there in August.

Thanks a lot for the insight guys. I'm getting excited just to get up there and scout in a couple of weeks. Judging from the flashearth.com pics, looks like the area has few small water sources. If I can find a secluded spring or water hole with good feed nearby, I will probably focus my efforts near it. I'm sure it will be scorching hot up there in mid August!
