With the lousy salmon season so far up here on the north coast the one bright spot has been the rock fishing. I got out with a couple friends on our kayaks out of Trinidad Friday. The ocean was about as flat as it ever gets. The fishing started out slow, but we kept going farther north and we got into them. I wasn't all that comfortable that far from port but the guys I was with were experienced and we had a pretty strong current running south so I knew it would be easy getting back. We ended up with 9 ling cod and about a dozen black snappers. We had a mess of fish to clean. Some of the fish we caught.

That looks like a hobie peddle kayak but he still makes me feel worthless. Gotta tip yer cap to him.

Good size lings, eel. Congrats. I haven't been out for a couple of years but the last time I went, we got into the blues something fierce. Ate deep fried fillets that night and it was the best fish I'd ever eaten. Nothin'...I mean nothin' like fresh fish that's been deep fried. :)
I'm 8 miles as the crow flies from the ocean and I have thought about getting a kayak. You ever tipped in one eel?

Steve

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

Thanks Wisz. I haven't tipped accidentally yet. I've done it on purpose to make sure I know how to get back on when the time comes.

I always try to go on the buddy system although I went to Trinidad yesterday thinking there would be other kayakers around but I was the only one there. I caught one nice ling and lost another one and then decided I had no business out there alone and came back in. Especially when this huge elephant seal surfaced about 15 ft. off my port. That thing was as long as my kayak. I scared him as much as he scared me.
