Sad!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-24-15 AT 07:33PM (MST)[p]Well I just got home from visiting my father in northern California and all I can say is sad. We fished several different creeks and it was horrible. Even when walking many, many stretches of stream looking to spook fish there was nothing. What's going on? Went to a creek I grew up fishing (I was 9 and I'm now 41) and it's all dried up. Extremely sad. I guess wyoming has spoiled me.

Did catch some fish in McCloud (river and reservoir).

Uh dumb dumb that would explain the dried up creek yes, but not the low number of fish in the other four creeks. Is it the mormons stockpiling again, or maybe the Asians with their buckets as was told to me by two locals.

As you well know, this ain't Wy but we do have some of the most Beautiful country around here to drown a dry fly or teach a crawler to swim. That...and you got to do it with your Dad, like the old days, and you ##### because the fishing was slow or the lack of water due to drought.

Count your blessings!

Joey

The Country is more than beautiful that was never my issue. Either you are on the sauce again or your reading skills are lacking...again. No wonder you live alone you grump. It has nothing to do with drought in the creeks we were fishing as there is plenty of water in all the creeks, but one.

I'm not bitching I am concerned, along with my father, why the fish aren't in the creeks like they used to be. It's a simple question I was hoping to get some answers to. Sad to hear my dad talk about Child's Meadows when he was young and then now with his grandkids. What I was hoping for was some answer's. GNF not managing properly,no longer stocking, over fishoverMc.

PS. The dried up creek is on willow creek mountain where I grew up fishing, hunting, and cutting wood which is far from Lassen national forest.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-15 AT 00:42AM (MST)[p] ANY day fishing is a great day, to get to enjoy it with your Dad, which you obviously don't get to do often, should make it very special indeed. As it turned out, i'd give anything for just the one more trip with my Pop.

FYI, i've fished the Mcloud many times, i live and hunt the C zones over 30 years now and some of my favorite hunting and fishing is the rough country and many of the waters from Big Bend to Dunsmuir.

What your beef? Mcloud lake never fails me. Did you try the upper Sac?

Clean and sober going on 18 years and proud of it!

MM ain't so bad. you might have to share it with some grumpy greybeards though! ;-).

A couple general observations, as I'm not familiar with that specific water.

The end of July is not known to be prime trout fishing, especially in low warm water. If you're fishing a planted spot, yes the Asians follow the planting trucks around like a herd of starving cats.

Generally speaking, our F&W does an excellent job of managing our fishing resources here in California. The one bright spot, IMO. They're doing a much better job now than even 10 years ago.

I would rather be skunked then fish a creek full of planter fish just to make it seem like fun!

I couldn't agree more Sage about spending time with my father. I enjoy it more than anything. It's the reason I've made the 16 hour drive the last 11 years. And I'm not talking bad about california either, the best memories of my childhood are from growing up in northern California. It was never my intention to start an argument. I was just wondering what was going on with some of California's creeks as it's sad to see such a great place be almost void of fish. It wasn't like that 2 years ago when we fished there.

I didn't get a chance to fish the upper sac. It's usually the first place we head off too. I grew up fishing the upper sac. and the upper Klamath and everything in between, though I haven't been back to the Klamath in over 20 years. We did catch some nice fish in McCloud lake and river. Eagle lake was on the hit list but only so many places you can fish in a week.

I agree 6x7, that's one reason I love shovel creek and Martin's dairy up on willow creek, but shovel is now dried up. Butte creek used to be fun, though i haven't fished it in years. All native fish. I also miss the steelhead fishing on the Salmon, Scott and Klamath rivers. All three used to be right out my back door.

I love the Scott River. In the summer we would jump off the bridge and swim for hours, and then we would return in the fall to catch steelhead. Dad and I would also push snow over the front bumper going over Etna Mountain to fish the north fork of the Salmon River. Both great places I spent a lot of time at as a kid.

I've been to every lake in the Marble Mountain Wilderness (with the exception of two or three). Me and a few different friends used to go in every year for a two week trip and try to fish it all! I haven't been in there in 10 years or so, but I'm sure not much has changed.

My first extended back pack trip was in the Klamath National Forest. At 13 a buddy and I were dropped off by his parents. Spent 6 days in and around Campbell and Cliff lakes. One the the prettiest places I've ever been. One day I hope to make it back, but I doubt I ever will.

Low water has not helped the fishing, except by making some of the larger rivers more accessible. Nevertheless, fishing is still fishing, and better than any option I can think of beside deer hunting.

If it posts, the photo is of a golden trout my son caught in Northern California. I never knew they had been introduced here until this summer.

Water has to cover the dynamite for it to work good.

dynamite is hard to get now days Gator.

Cliff and Campbell Lakes are pretty. Man Eaten Lake had the best trout fishing back then. Big Rainbows but a lousy place to camp.
