I have a tag for A-12 (x6B) I can not make it up to scout. Has anybody been up that way to see the quality of bucks this year I'm not looking for places to hunt I'm just wondering how the area is doing for deer this year?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-27-15 AT 12:06PM (MST)[p]You are correct. I should have been more specific. I will be camping at Antelope lake at the south east camp ground and hunting A12(X6B)Witch is located across the highway south of there! I only used the lake name for a general area land mark. ....Anyone see many deer this year?

my son has X5A and I been all over and all Bucks look very good except the draw back is 4 or 5 other guys are looking at same bucks as you even in the X6's and X3's even in X1 where I have my tag...I've had time to kill a last few weeks..
even got rained on some..

Thanks jester. I'm just excited get out there. Its good to hear the bucks are doing good this year and a little rain sure can't hurt.....Jim

I'm surprised that you haven't gotten more info from the few replies. That area holds some slugs but the better ones usually get seen or taken in the very late season hunts.

Maybe you are getting some good info thru PM's?

Good luck on your hunt!

Joey

Nope joey everyone seems to be closed mouth. We have relatives that have drawn there the last few years. I didn't want any information other than how the deer looked this year, healthy, lots of fawns .lots of nice bucks ect. I guess Im just excited and was jonesin a little....take care....Jim

The deer are in great shape. Most does threw 2 fawns this year.

Horn growth on the bucks in Janesville is above average IMO.

The May/June rains were very timely. I hike up to a look out tower 2-3 times a week, the look out is about 5 miles north of Antelope. The grass is still green in the shady areas and north facing slopes. At least it was last Sunday. I'll be up there this afternoon again.

Only down side is that because of the drought, I believe more deer failed to migrate up this year and stayed near the agricultural areas (Private). I say this based on my observations that there are more deer in and around Janesville than I've seen in the 25 years I've lived here. It could be lions keeping them down as well but I realy think it's the drought. Or best case, the deer population has grown BUT wouldn't bet on that.

According to the fish and wildlife the herd has double or tripled in that unit

I also had heard that the deer are going to be lower this year and there are more bear than in past. Water could be an issue according to local biologist.
I drew an A12 bow tag and will be headed up to hunt the second half of season.

I have not seen many good deer near the lake this year, and no great ones anywhere on the unit (biggest being 160-170 gross). Nevertheless, I would love to have that tag instead of D3-5. Good luck.
