if u build it they will come...

If they're worried about inbreeding and genetic diversity in those mountains there are thousands of mountain lions in California that could be trapped and relocated to the area. Be my guest.

Look at the bright side though. We may soon have enough money for a landscaped mountain lion overpass.

Most of the money would come from raising the gasoline tax 6 cents per gallon, increasing the diesel tax by 11 cents and creating a new $65 vehicle registration fee. The proposal also calls for adjusting the gasoline tax annually to match inflation and using $450 million in cap-and-trade money collected from polluters to expand public transit. A competing plan authored by Sen. Jim Beall, D-San Jose, would increase the gasoline and diesel taxes twice as much.

Guns are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one you probably will never need one again.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-04-15 AT 01:28PM (MST)[p]No shortage of mountain lions in this state! If the bleeding hearts want it built than let the SOBs that voted for the moratorium on mountain lions pay for it... Not sportsman's dollars! I do hate to see crap like this make the news it just brings more of theses goofball on board with their stupid Disney theories!

The idea that the Santa Monica Mountains lions are inbreeding was the initial concern. But, the people in charged refused to dart, tag, DNA test, and transport suitable mountain lions into the habitat or, conversely, bring some lions North using the same protocol.

Now it is about driver safety and the roadside deaths of the lions. Of course, some of the funds may come from Caltrans at a time when Governor Jerry Brown is trying to hike license registration fees and gas taxes to make up for the missing budget item called road repair and replacement. Such a scam.

There is no guarantee that the lions will use the crossing or will not stray onto private property nearby.

This is reminiscent of the California Condor Program -- which is a backdoor gun control measure limiting lead ammunition although the science is murky. The Condors are little more than an open-air project to protect the salaries and infrastructure of the researchers.
