California Deer Association Central and Southern CA

I am proud to announce that I have been hired on by the California Deer Association as their Central and Southern California Regional Director.
CDA is a non-profit, tax-exempt wildlife conservation organization whose principal goal is to improve our California deer herds and other wildlife through direct financial support for habitat improvement and research projects.
It's charter calls for 75% of the net proceeds from fundraising to go to projects benefiting deer and other wildlife within California. Of those monies, 40% goes to Habitat Restoration and Improvements, 25% goes to Land Acquisition and Conservation Easements, 25% goes to Biological Studies (Research), 5% goes to Equipment and Supplies, and 5% goes to Public Education and Youth Projects.
Now more than ever, California Deer herds need our help. Be it by tax deductible donation, sponsorship, membership or volunteerism. If you are interested in joining or helping support a banquet, I can be contacted anytime. We hold 30 big game banquets throughout the state of California so there is sure to be one near you.

Congrats Kevin! I know you will do a good job for CDA and for California deer in general.
Good luck in bringing all interested parties back into the fold. The Calif hunters/Deer need all the support we can get.

Those of you who are "not fans" need to get ahold of this guy and let him know why you are not happy. He is a dedicated hunter and outdoorsman, and will do his best to promote the things that are right and correct the things that are wrong.

This ain't no "yes man" they have hired and he will not be afraid to buck the system as needed!

2016, our lieutenant Newsom has some plans ahead for us with a proposition with lots of new ammo and gun laws, as long as Californian caters to the ignorant this will probably pass.

The long term future of our deer lies in lightning strikes for fire and natural diseases in the mountain lion and wolf , due to over population.

Guns are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one you probably will never need one again.

Eel and 264,
I am afraid that by the time mtn lion and wolf over populate, there will be no deer and elk in CA. Fires are a great tool for providing better habitat. I think we will see this in the next few years in quite a few places as this was a terrible fire season. I am with you Eel, new gun and ammunition laws can only be bad for sportsmen in CA. The NRA is saying they will fight them, I hope they are really going to and not just saying so to get their members to send in more money in support! Sometimes in CA it seems hopeless, and that we are outvoted at every turn, that is just another good reason to support ALL of our conservation organizations, but especially the CDA ;) ;)

I agree, it took 5 million dollars to fight that anti hand gun law, now their saying 15 million! are we being blackmailed?

I think they are really fighting these laws, but guys like newsome can come up with new ones at an astounding rate!!!
BTW, have you seen that picture floating around FB with newsome and shrimpboy?

He will be sentenced today.

huntingheritage, I know your area is central/southern CA but I want to tell you of my experience in NW CA this season.

We got a little rain so I decided to hunt a patch of oaks that I know about from years of hunting this area. There is a road down to them but that road has been closed for several years. (This is Forest Service). I'm confident no one has hunted it this year. So I hiked in a little over 2 miles through timber to get to the oaks. I got there at daylight and had the wind in my favor. The rain made for quiet walking, which is the main reason I decided to hunt the oaks. The acorn crop was below average but still plenty on the ground. I spent several hours still hunting in there and saw zero deer. One semi fresh deer track. I did see two piles of mountain lion scat that wasn't fresh but they both had deer hair in them. I plan on doing one more "hail mary" hunt back in there before the season closes and will take a camera this time.

I'm 67 and have been hunting this area since 1964. I would say on average, I used to see about 10-15 deer/day. This year in a total of 7 days I've seen 7 deer. Total.

To be fair, I understand that hair loss syndrome has also taken a toll on blacktails, but that just needs to run its course.

I don't know what CDA can do about that but I wish you luck.

Yes, I am the field director of the central and southern regions, but I live in Northern California. Have most of my life. You said NW. Can you get me closer? Are you talking Alturas, Burney? I have also found that every place I hunted this year the numbers were WAY down. I have been trying for 5 years to get my son on a buck to no avail. He had one close call, but had a misfire. One other close call we waited out a buck and doe bedded 225 yds off for 2 1/2 hrs for them to bolt out the backdoor when they woke up from their afternoon nap. Last weekend near Trinity Lake, we saw a total of 2 does, and they were both in town. I have been seeing a tremendous amount of bear sign though, just no live bears to put a pill in.

Kevin, NW would be Humboldt/Trinity Counties. Strangely, I haven't seen much bear sign this year, not even in the acorns.
