I'm gonna do it this year. I'm going to do what I haven't done in 8 years and that's buy an A Zone tag for deer. I know where I'm going to hunt and I am even going to take a couple scouting trips over late summer. Anyone else going to hunt somewhere they normally don't but should this year?

Steve

Who in the Hell did you suck up to Steve??? are you going to do it on foot?? or ride around in a jeep???

Are you hunting public or private property?

I usually hunt A zone because it is in my backyard but I have been considering trying something different. However, I am also curious to see what this A zone buck looks like this year...

I didn't suck up to anyone, Bob. Going to hunt public land...I've hunted it before and have been successful there. I wish I had some private to hunt but after living here for 43 years and trying to find a ranch to hunt since I was 20 or so, I have given up on that.
I'll do what I need to do to get it done. Brave the masses that stay close to the road...deal with the heat.
Don't ask where...I won't say where I'll be hunting. I hope to post up a pic come early October. :)

One of these years I'll venture out of my normal spots in d3-5 and the x zone I hunt every couple years. I'd really like to get a good blacktail out of a wilderness in B zone.

First, Good luck Steve! I've taken many a buck in the A zone but almost all were on private property. Every ranch a bit different, in no place though, did catching them at first light or right at the last bit a daylight, seem more important. Also, you may be seeing does but not be seeing any bucks and feel that there are none there. That is NEVER the case. It might take till the last weekend of the season for them to appear but appear they will, seemingly out of nowhere. Good Luck on your hunts!

As far as hunting where i'm not used to, i think it's part of the whole adventure. This year i have 4 points and will use them, if drawn, on one of the lesser X zone areas. Most of the places that i might hunt, i'll be in that country for the first time. I love it!

Thanks Joey....I wish you luck in the draw. I will plan on hunting the last 2 weeks of the season and hope that the cooler nights will help with getting the bucks with the does.
Forester- That is a stud buck in my neck of the woods. :) I'd be stoked to shoot a buck of that caliber where I'll be hunting. I hope you can catch up with that guy during the season.

I sure would like to hunt true blacktails one of these days,I could use one in the freezer and over the mantel.
