Anybody hunt the area around cherry lake last year? Kill anything? See anything? I haven't been back there in years. Just wondering how it looks after the burn.

Most of the area is burned severely . I haven't hunted it since the fire , but I heard of a few good bucks killed there last year . 2015 was the first year the burn scar area was open to the public . As always , it is a very popular and crowded area . I would hunt elsewhere if you want to avoid the crowds and huge numbers of road hunters . The fishing is as good as ever .

yeah we always did pretty good fishing that lake. had a few nice camping spots up that way, might cruise up there to take a look and do some fishing this spring. guys must get some bucks up there since it is pretty popular but i don't remember seeing much

I work up there, see some deer here and there. The brush is growing back with a vengeance. The dfg winter count was poor. Saw some pics of nice bucks taken out of the area early in the 15 season. Will be interesting to see / hear the results of the 16 season. Any deer around the area had an easy winter and good food now. It will always be crowded worse maybe now because they leave the gate on the dam open so you can now road hunt kibbie ridge with a rifle.

I just got back camping there this last weekend. The bite was terrible. Only 2 fish caught from the fisherman I talked to. I was fishing off the bank near the dam with no luck. The 2 fish caught, there bellies were stuffed with black bugs. Water is down. The water is flowing nicley along the Clavey and the creeks we camped next to. We seen a nice Black bear walking down the road. It weighed every bit of 250lbs. Seen 1 doe on a little hike I took the kids on. Set the spotting scope up and glassed for a few hours in the AM and didnt see much other than a coyote. I didnt hit it very hard, I was was with the family. Talking with Hetch Hetchy water dude, there was near 15 small bucks taken out of the Cherry lake area last year. Mostly forkies. The burn zone is massive and impressive. When I came through late in the season last year, I was shocked at the site. It does look good for hunting this year, but I assume it will look good for hundreds of others as well.

>Paradactal you must have talked to

I talked with Ken. That guy, man he knew every nook and cranny of every mountain all the way to Oregon. He was a pleasure to talk to.

Yep, Kenny the cowboy. Great guy. I used to live up there, I traded stations with ken in 2010 for family obligations. I miss living there. Ken is a true modern day mountain man, he grew up packing at kenedy meadows and has hunted quite a few places.

Yes sir, sounds like we are talking about the same guy. He mentioned he used to pack back into Kennedy lake years ago. I hope I run into him again. He was a wealth of knowledge. Great guy!!
