A21 Anderson Flat

Has anyone hunted the A21 Anderson Flat archery hunt? I have the points to draw and I know it can produce nice bucks, but I believe it is hit and miss depending on the weather. More snow = more bucks coming in from Yellowstone is what I understand. Thanks, Matt

This is the California forum not Montana or Wyoming! Ha! Just kidding,I don't know anything about that area other then it can be good hunting and all deer don't wait for belly deep snow ,so a good buck can move out of Yosemite at anytime from October on.

I meant Yosemite, but I'll take bucks coming in from anywhere!!! Don't want to burn my 7 points on a unit that takes 4 or 5 to draw but I don't know what else I'd put in for.

I am "Way" out of touch insofar as what points are needed for various zones but, why not try the Northern X Zones, near the Nevada Border...?

I am told that the Deer leave Wyoming and head through Utah and Nevada just to eat Calif green grass! now i would had believed that but Calif has had no green grass in a few years! :)

Havn't hunted with archery tackle but have hunted it with rifle and am very familiar with this area. This hunt is all about weather. If it doesn't have weather you are hunting local bucks that are fairly few and far between and they have been hunted hard during the general season.

The year I drew the rifle hunt we had no weather and the hunting was very tough, only 4 or 5 people got animals, I got one of them. Compare to last year where it snowed and I think the book shows 100% success.

It can be a great hunt but its a crap shoot as to whether you will have the conditions you need.

If the weather doesn't come in you will be hunting the same bucks that have already been hit hard during d6. I've been up there during a21 and g37 when it was still warm and talked to plenty of depressed hunters. But you never know.

So what do you think...should I burn my 7 points on A21 or keep chasing the Kern River hunt which currently takes, I believe, 10 points? Curious to know what others would do. Point creep seems to keep me away from the better hunts.

That's a tough call, having waited so long. I'm sure it's easy to second guess yourself.

A21 is mid/late Nov, but G37 is late Nov to early Dec. Seems like the Rifle hunt would be better (timing wise) than Archery hunt.

Then again, there's Bass Hill (A26) which is mid Nov to Mid Dec, which you should definitely consider too.....

Good luck which ever you choose!
