New family tag?

Anyone hear about a new program to get more new hunters. I was told that CA. Is adopting New hunter family tags. The way is was explained to me was, that a new hunter could apply for any zone and any family members could put in with them. And here's the thing I'm not to fond of, they would get first precedence over all others? Something sounds fishy.

I hope so. A friend of mine went down for hunter safety instructor training and was told during the training that was going to happen? I hope he heard wrong, but with this fish and game anything is possible. Although it seems that they don't want new hunters.

LAST EDITED ON May-04-16 AT 11:29PM (MST)[p]I seriously doubt this would happend unless it was a Apprentice tag.. (junor tag) ..

This is already in place...they've hidden it to the masses by simply calling it the "A Zone". 65,000 tags...sounds about right.

Yep, I hear ya. I've heard stories of guys coming out of the hills with does in the back of their pick ups and the wardens wouldn't do anything because the judges wouldn't. They said they didn't know any better, that's how they did it where they came from. Now the herds are a small fraction of what they should be and Fish and Wildlife blames it on drought, encroachment and everything else but that and predators. They just don't get it.

My son was drawn for an apprentice pheasant hunt this year. There are several categories of such "special" hunts now (some for women, adults new-to-hunting, etc.) that are family-oriented and, if I recall correctly, may even use the term "family" in their title or description. These may be what we are hearing about.

As for family deer tags recognized by DFG, now that would be a surprise. Even though it is what too many folks in my own town do on an annual basis.

There used to be a decent size antelope herd in a little town called Cuyama just east of us in the 80's. That is until it became a "farming" and magically, the antelope have all been poached out of existence. Go figure....some don't know the rules of management and hunting ethics.
