Which sheep Hunt?

Boy i really let this question go until it's almost to late for replies to be any good to me but If a guy knows and can post back right away, i'd appreciate it.

Which of the Cali Sheep Zones has the best/decent access to a guy who can't hardly walk. I'm busted up enough that i didn't even have to appeal my first application for SS disability. Plus, they said that i been disabled since 2014 and i didn't file until late last year. In short, i'm buggered up! No way to afford a outfitter, if drawn it would be nice to have access by vehicle to where i might see animals. Not sure i'd shoot one anyway, been putting in forever, just love to scratch off one more bucket list item. Thanks!

Well Sage, I know which one you don't want, that's the White Mountain Tag. It's a brutal tag, even for the young guys. Those ram's live at 12,000 feet, and its a long ways up. As far as the other units you'll have to wait for someone else to reply, I haven't a clue.

Thanks

Brownie

good morning Joey, i personally know nothing of sheep hunting or these units. That being said my huntin fool book says the Marble / Clipper mountains unit 501 "made up of low elevation, remote, rugged desert country. Rams in the unit can be glassed up very easily from the roads." That unit has 3 tags this year and the next unit Kelso peak/ Old dad mountains 502 "this is a physically easier sheep hunt. the population is low but stable. Consists of mainly public land with good access." this unit has only 1 tag this year. The other units sound like typical rough sheep country. Hope this helps.

Very Nice of you guys to get back to me so quick, the both of you, awesome!.

Since i posted my question, i've been in and out of the booklet and google earth. Chances are so slim to draw, probably makes no difference which i apply for but you never know and having decent access would greatly enhance a drawn hunt.

Joey, Soj is right, but the Marble Clippers are pretty tough. My nephew killed a ram there a couple years ago. Had a tough hike out. Old Dads are the easiest by far. I drew the Clark/Kingstons 10 years ago. I had no trouble on the walking there, and my knees are hamburger, too.

LAST EDITED ON May-27-16 AT 04:06PM (MST)[p]I had to make the big trip from westwood to chester today anyway and stopped in at the "sports nut" and applied for deer and the rest of the options. Good folks there at the sports nut, might take a bit to get used to, but darn nice folks!

looks like i'm having a gastric bypass done this fall. though any successful draws would be welcome, not sure of the timing and how all that might work out.

with my 4 deer points, i chose to try for x-3a, know it, have friends and contacts there, not far away, outside chance of drawing.

with sheep, i went with the old dad's. not sure why but seems that's been my choice every year going way back until recently when they had no tag to draw. points don't help in this draw though i have the 14 max, there is only the 1 tag...and i didn't know that there was even the one until soj5's and paul's posts.

again, thanks for the quick responses guys, anytime i can be of help.

Joey,

On the outside (longshot) chance you draw, I'd like to tag along.

I've got good optics, and lots of patience.

Plus I'd love to see you kill a ram!!!

Slayer, mighty fine of you! I know that i'd be glad and lucky to have you along. Thanks!

Soj5, yes, thank you much. i'm taking this very serious, all in type a deal.

Thanks Fudd, after my remark about having saw your trophies and telling you not to worry, that they weren't worth much, i thought you were going to be a poison pen to me forever. That was a joke then and i do appreciate your thoughts now.

They sure make a guy jump through hoops to have that surgery.
