How many applications do you guys get each year? Anybody have an educated guess as to approximately how many you think are sold? I usually get ten, just curious what everybody else does.

I normally get 2 or 3. Yeah I thought it was fake made up because for years I never heard of anyone recieving a tag and then I talked to a guy online that was archery hunting G3 with the raffle tag .

I remember reading that raffle winners posts on a different forum. He was archery hunting it because he couldn't get a rifle in time or something?

If you did get that tag you would have to take a couple months off of work and do all the hunts you probably won't get again. I'm already throwing a pile of money at dfg, might as well give them a few more dollars.

Forester, I Thank You for making this Post.

Each Year I buy every child all of their Licenses, Tag's, Drawing's, Stamps and it cost's a good Penny.

My Daughter, at age 12, was Picked for the 1 Bull Tule Elk tag. The Tule Elk is on our wall. F&G placed her Picture on the Cover of the Big Game Hunting Regulations.

The Safari Club International (Sacramento) had her as a guest Speaker at a banquet. Many good things happened.

I completely forgot about the extra drawing tags until I read this; Your Post.

My Children chat among themselves as to what they wish to put in for and the extra drawing tags. I failed to know the latter. I told them to select 50 drawings or, as many as a couple $K's and I'll pay. They objected and said 50 was more than enough. I taught them to be Frugal but frankly, I sure thought they'd choose to use Dad's coins, but no, they didn't.

There's many things about our Regulations I could be upset about but, like some said, the money is to a good cause. I also feel indebted to F&G for so much we have received.

I'm sure the odds are akin to winning the lottery. With that said, I usually throw my name in the hat for a few chances along with the sheep, elk, and antelope fund raising tags just for the heck of it. I am not one of those lucky types so I am probably just throwing good money after bad but what can I say, I am a drawing addict haha! Hopefully the tag proceeds are being put to good use by CA Fish and Game, correction I mean CA Fish and Wildlife...

Good luck in the draws everyone!

I was the lucky winner this year for 2016. I bought only three tags. My third tag hit it. Thank you to God for his blessing.

The odds for the random draw fund raising tags are obviously not "good". These are tags not out of the general pool and would never go to preference point holders. They are designated to raise funds and were typically auctioned off by Non-profits each year. They have taken one fund raising tag from each species- open zone deer tag, elk tag (area rotated each year), and an antelope tag and made them available for the $5 a chance draw (sheep tag is available some years depending on survey results).
Here are the 2016 number of applicants
open zone deer 21,766
antelope 7,988
Grizzly Island elk 17,232

There is one other open zone deer tag that goes to the hunter ed instructors draw and that had 593 applicants last year.
