A few years older than me, either Rich or his brother Rob sold me the sporting equipment from their Dad's store, the "Team Shop" in livermore way back when i first started competing in athletics and kept on doing so right thru high school. Then again, they were there when i bought my first Bow at age 13, to show and sell me what i needed to play that game too. The last i saw those guys, almost inseparable, was when they called me to come over and score a good moose one of them had just taken in alaska. Good guys, soft spoken, Rich bought himself a good tag this year. Rich has been very active in the conservation, not just hunting, of our Big Game animals. I'll let him tell of the why and how he came to get this awesome tag...Happy Hunting and good luck Rich!!

X5b archery is a good choice for that tag,I saw a pic of a monster buck a guy found last year while on the antelope hunt up there.

Thanks 6x7, You might want to contact him through his website, nice enough guy.

Boy, wouldn't it be nice to have a tag like this with all the options that it has. We've had threads here before, asking which hunts we'd take if given the opportunity. Since i found out that Rich bought the open zone tag, i've been pondering which hunt or hunts that i'd go on. I think that it's obvious that Rich can afford a guide and i wouldn't be surprised if one or more hasn't already contacted him from reading about his purchase right here. If in his shoes, i'd use the services of a professional, especially now that i can't get around like i could but more importantly, they probably have guys and eye's, already on some of the bigger bucks in the state.

If you could pick one hunt, one zone, what would it be?

If you could pick one guide to hunt Kali Bucks, who would that be?

I guess an open season tag allows the hunter to hunt all of the draw units too?

I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to begin. You'd have to really check the opening and closing dates and plan accordingly. It would be a good problem to have though. :)

Best of luck to Rich!

Sounds like a really good guy. I hope he shoots a monster. Sage, let us know how he does later this season.

OK, i keep his website bookmarked and do check in weekly to read what he's posted. His and Rob's Ranch is on the opposite side of the Livermore Valley than ours is but it's still my hometown. Rich and his brother were early archery mentors. From way back, i could never figure why both the Brothers chose archery and not to hunt with a rifle. They often told me of "almost got him" stories on Big, for that area, blacktail bucks that got away when they would have been history on the wall for a guy with a good rifle in hand. They also Fly Fished a lot around the Lake Almanor area as Kids. Their Dad owned a older Lakefront Cabin on the East Shore and they spent their days fishing, mostly fly fishing, and they no doubt got their share.

There is a whole rather large group of hard hunting big buck hunters from the Livermore area that i was a part of but just don't get a chance to see anymore because i moved North some 30+ years ago. I attended a Native Sons of the Golden West Big Buck Contest down there a few years ago by invite from one of the guys and good friend who was helping put on the affair. From the moment i walked in the door and thru the evening, i was swamped by groups of old buds, some young and some older than me, with good to see you's, how you doings, and well wishes. Gone thirty years and returned to be made felt like a dang celebrity. Was Very Nice!

Eel, Yes, open zone lets a guy hunt all the hunts including the tuffest limited Entry and late hunts. I'd think about the late Muzzy hunt in the Garden and the late Doyle hunt. For sure i'd take a look at a couple spots i know in 5a and 5b, and that Cal Pines area in 3a might be worth at least a scouting trip.

Does anybody know how many of these tags there are? I heard that there were only a few...3-4 something like that.

Hey Joey, Hank from Livermore, CA. I was just at Rich's house earlier this week to
pickup my CA lope mount that my taxi Taff Vidale dropped of along with an elk mount
for Rich.Yep, Rich sure has a good tag.I think he will spend some time inDG along
with Doyle as well. Hope your doing well Joey! Well your not going to believe it but
I drew 3 quality tags this year. UT Wasatch LE muzzy bull elk,NV muzzy bull elk unit 111-115
and CO third season mule deer.

I'm pretty sure 5 GO tags,3 OZ tags.
Next time I see rich I'll tell him you said Hi!

Take care,Hank

Hey Hank, How's it go? Looks like it's going pretty good with those tags you drew. You're one tag drawing SOB come to think of it, good on you Bud!

Right now, Start in planning right now how you can have the time to do those hunts right. Close your business down, sell the SOB, or show someone that you trust how to keep it going while you're away, so you can get away, and go make the most of those hunts! Neat stuff right there, i hope you do well and certainly yes, send Rich my best wishes!
