New Gun Laws

Wow. Looks like all my kids will be visiting me more often in NV to buy ammo. Glad I left a few years ago.

For you CA. guys that do not reload your ammo, you would be wise to spend some cash now to buy via the internet at a cheaper price. Ammo prices in CA. will jump in price due to the background check requirement of buying from a licensed ammo seller. Those sellers will figure in their clerk's time to run the background check with the CA. Department of Justice and there will be no more buying on the internet from out of state. Most of the small stores that sell ammo will just quit selling ammo to avoid the hassle of the background check.

I'm not sure there will be a background check at every purchase more of a annual or biannual checkup with a permit. The little stores will be the middle man and put a markup on it. I exclusively buy ammo online, but I think to buy reload components you must also have this permit. Don't quote me on any of this just going off of memory from Nra-ila email updates.

The thing that makes you feel good is that you have to pay the highest taxes to be forced to comply with the most oppressive legislation! Kind of like living in France. Their most restrictive gun laws prevents all the bad stuff!

You are wrong, theft of a firearm is a felony and has been for a long time. What he vetoed was if your gun was stolen and you failed to report it to law enforcement within a set time, you could be charged with a crime for failing to report a stolen or lost gun.

I read the bill. The state can charge each person up to 50 dollars for a background check and if clear they issue you a ammo buying license that you must show at each purchase of ammo from a licensed ammo dealer. Our liberal Democrats making a dollar while curtailing our firearm rights. Only in CA. Moonbeam needs more money for his bullet train.

"Another bill he vetoed would have asked voters to strengthen penalties for stealing a gun, which voters will already be deciding it through Newsom's initiative. The ballot measure also will ask voters to require reporting of lost and stolen firearms ? an idea Brown rejected Friday and has rejected at least twice before.

"I continue to believe that responsible people report the loss or theft of a firearm and irresponsible people do not; it is not likely that this bill would change that," he wrote in a veto message.

Newsom's initiative has put a spotlight on the lieutenant governor as he campaigns for governor in 2018. He's been at loggerheads with Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, a Los Angeles Democrat who tried unsuccessfully to persuade Newsom to drop the ballot measures in favor of legislative action.

Brown's vetoes protected Newsom's initiative from becoming moot. A spokesman for Brown, Evan Westrup, said voters "will have a chance to go even further in November, if they choose."

In other words, if I read this right, there will be an initiative on the November ballot for more gun control and one of the proposals up for vote will be to "strengthen penalties for stealing a gun", along with other more dubious and new gun laws.

Who wouldn't be in favor of stronger penalties for stealing guns? It will be a package deal with a lot of other garbage attached.

Probably be called something like "Get tough on gun criminals act of 2016"

I think we're being sucker punched by Brown and Newsome.

Prop 47/AB109 changed many theft related felonies to misdemeanors in Cali, theft of a firearm being one of them. Most reasonable people found it odd that a state so tough on guns would make stealing one a misdo so they tried to change it back this time but moonbeam vetoed it. What most don't realize is California does not care about criminals possessing guns, they threw in the towel on that a long time ago. They are trying to make it so hard for the average joe to purchase a gun, get ammo, get a permit etc., that they will just give up.

The state's goal is to kill gun ownership, not in this generation, but in future generations. They are playing a long term game.

The PRC probably wants unregistered firearms to be stolen so they will not be returned to their rightful owners after being stolen.

I'm thinking that they are testing the confiscation without fair reimbursement waters with the magazine ban. I'm not thinking the state could afford fairly reimbursing owners for all the 10+ round magazines out there. If that flies after court challenge, they can pass a new law and come collect the lawfully registered firearms.
