Did anyone draw g6 this year I think for a change of pace and the fact that I would enjoy drawing the unit one day that I am going to check it out right before season and the be up there opening day . If I find or locate some bucks that are worth persuing I would like to help others .

I know... Absolutely awful first post, but...

Been a member for awhile but since I'm not tech savvy haven't been able to figure out how to post until now.

I actually just found out today my brother in law drew the tag. With 0 points!

I'm super pumped to go help him out and hopefully get him on his first buck. He says he's tired of my sister holding it over his head that she has shot a buck and he hasn't. I told him this is the break he needed to regain his manhood!

Oh so he drew a g6 tag? Congrats hope for weather I do know that . I'm most likely going to be up there come opening day .

Yup, he was one of the 5 random tags drawn. I told him he has no idea how lucky he is. He's completely new to hunting. Gonna try and get him the fever.

I've had that tag 3 times.
That hunt only works if you get a storm to start them rutting or snow to push them out of the higher country. Two years ago it was hot and no weather until the last weekend. Very few deer seen or killed during the first week of the season and most of those were young forkies.

Can you go into the high country and hunt them or is the high country out of the zone ?

Also out of the three years that you drew it what were the bucks that you killed in the zone? Any pics?

I imagine it must be a fun hunt or good enough that you continue to apply and draw it .

The first year I hunted it there was a lot of snow that pushed the deer down and I took a 3x4 on the second day.
The next time my hunting partner and I both had tags and we took a 3x4 and a 4x4 and passed on some small forkies. We has a lot of snow that year.
Two years ago we pulled again with 11 points and had only seen one small legal forkie all week and then on Fri three days before the season ended it started raining and my hunting partner took a forkie and I took a 3x3. Both bucks were chasing does.
My hunting partner likes that area because we are old and its not too hard to climb up the ridges. With 2 under max points we could have pulled X5B or any other X zones with bigger bucks.
You will have a good time if you get a storm or snow.

I have never hunted it and didn't draw it I have always told myself I was going to apply and draw that unit one since it's close to me and I know there are some monsters in there if your lucky and work hard enough. I plan on going up there and taking a look at the unit as well and deciding if I want to burn my points on that unit this upcoming season. That is why I ask the questions I am. How wide? And do you have any photos of the bucks your guys harvested on the g6 unit ?

I drew the tag two years ago and got a 3x3 the first morning after passing on 15 legal bucks, my dad drew it last year and he got a a 4x2 it took us longer to find his which was a surprise because there was more snow on the ground last year. The high country is still part of the zone but is more than likely going to be inaccessible either due to snow or the forest service closing roads

That's good to know I don't have a tag and have to work opening day but will be up there the last Friday Saturday looking around helping others find deer if they would like. Anyway I wonder if a hunter were to hold out and hunt the whole season what kind of buck he could turn up
