You will if you had them up south or east of Clear Lake.....or west of Janes Reservoir! Still going strong too!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-30-17 AT 04:06PM (MST)[p]I would imagine the Clear Lake Archery antelope hunters are going to be SOL with their season starting in 5 days. Rifle is probably in danger too. Once in a lifetime tags, hopefully F&G lets them turn their tags in and get their points back.

At one time they had over 90 fires reported. As of now, there is approx 60K + acres going mostly consisting of two main fires. The Steele fire in the Garden is the largest at just over 40K acres. The Cove fire south of Candby, north of Aden, blew up again last night and there are mandatory evacuations for the Rush creek residents.
Looks like that darn Steels fire in X2 has gone almost all of the way from Clear Lake/Steele swamp area to the Crowder flat road. Then almost to Weed Valley to the north and Blue mountain/136 rd to the south.

well that looks like 2 cams gone, although that giant elk unit is getting smaller hopefully there is some left by september.

wildfin...sent you a PM.

The overhead activity and smoke is unbelievable. Seeing bucks, bulls and speed goats hanging tight in the trees.

I'm in the same boat, although I think my cams may have been spared.

Wildfin do you have the archery or rifle tag? I'm a rifle tag holder.

I have the rifle tag, hopefully there wont be more fire but the forest is closed for access at this time and I would say it may be some time before the animals come back around there, there is also a sheep herder around moitz and his dog chase the elk out,so I hope he is gone in sept. he moves every 5 days, but were I hunt pig the dogs will chase the pig for miles from the sheep in any weather.good luck

Latest map shows that the fire has jumped the lines and gone over the main ( north-south ) Crowder Mountain Rd at Baseball reservoir. Also looks like it's gotten onto Kellog Mountain. It doesn't have to go very much further before it ties into the Barry Point fire scar.

About 35,00 of it is farther south and on x3a I believe. But yes a lot of acres. I know x2 pretty well and know the area that burned. A lot of it will benefit from the burn. More lightning coming through on the coast at the oregon border last night so they aren't done over there yet.

I know several people with the deer tag this year and this fire will have an impact on the hunt. Bummer for them. I don't think it will impact the likely tables antelope hunt except maybe access if you come into the area by way of the clear lake road but the clear lake hunt will be tough off of the refuge. I think it might make the elk hunt easier by cutting down the acreage to look in.
