LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-17 AT 05:44PM (MST)[p]Hi guys,
i just recently found this site while doing a little research on this zone. I drew a general tag this year with 4 points. Have never hunted the zone before, but am relatively familiar with the area. I live in Tahoe City and go out the reservoirs occasionally. I've been up to Verdi Peak/ Ladybug peak. I understand there is some private ranches as you approach Verdi proper form those areas. I've also seen spot kill maps that show decent locality on the north westerly side of Floriston. Approach from dog valley road moving south? I've only seen a handful of decent bucks at reservoir level. Is it worth spending time that low? Anybody else have this zone this season and want to share info or go scout? Any successful guys willing to share some info with a guy that was lucky enough to draw this tag finally?

Couple turkeys from Spring!!

theres a lot more deer on the western slope than the eastern slope, and plenty more hunters.
You will find good numbers of deer down low, and that's where everybody who wants a crack at horn will be.
For a better hunting experience imo I'd stick East of Crystal Peak Rd.
Find water and green forage and stick with it. Be prepared to stay a night or 3 under the stars.
Lots of good areas to look over.
We've killed many nice bucks from 7b at or around the famed 30" mark, with a couple in the 32" range.
All were killed E of Crystal Peak Rd.

Bossbrott,

I read your tip regarding Crystal Peak RD and went up to do some scouting a couple weeks ago and could not find that road. We took the ATV's up to Verdi Peak and camped out but only saw 2 small shooters. Was hoping you could give a little more insight as to where crystal peak rd is?

Would be much appreciate.

Happy Hunting!

How did you end up doing on your X7b hunt last season? My buddy and I drew a tag this year after waiting 6 years and we are looking for some insight on how hunting was last year. Any information helps.

Thank you,

Basically Eaast of Henness Pass road in the northern end of the zone. As a starting point, I'd start directly east of Dog Valley campground. The gravel road into Verdi is the boundary right there. Good luck!
