If you haven't seen the language in SB1487, you need to. Titled the "Iconic African Species Protection Act", this asinine piece of legislation would make it illegal to possess any part of an elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, zebra, giraffe, hippo and other African game trophies, if you didn't have the animal here in CA by the end of 2018. It provides for fines of $25,000 and jail sentences of 6 months, plus administrative fines on top of that if you're found to possess any of these animal's parts.

The legislators in this state have lost their f'ing minds. Insanity rules the day under the dome. If you think 'Big deal, I don't hunt in Africa'; well it IS a big deal because the ANTI's aren't gonna stop with this if they succeed. Next it'll be something we have here besides Mountain Lions, like elk or sheep.
Get involved and help defeat this asinine piece of legislation.

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE, THIS IS THE BIGGEST LEGISLATION POS I HAVE EVER HEARD OF. I WONT BE HUNTING AFRICA, BUT DO NOT WANT ANOTHER ANTI HUNTING SQUEEZE LAW IN OUR HUNTING ARENA.

THE LEGISLATORS HAVE LOST THEIR MINES ON THIS ONE....I WILL BE INVOLVED......................YD.

As if this isn't bad enough, and it is, there is also a bill running through the process to make it illegal for charities like California Waterfowl, RMEF, Ducks Unlimited and others to raffle off guns anymore in their fundraisers.

This liberal crap has gotten way out of hand and needs to be stopped now.

>Talk about gut and amend! From
>utilities bill to fish and
>game. Wow.

Exactly. This bill was 100% gutted and turned into something completely different than originally represented. This kind of antics is a great example of what is wrong with California Politicians.

I don't hunt Africa and don't plan on it but would like to help, but what can I do to help ?

There is a few of these Bills are written by so called sportsmen and they make big bucks on doing this ,but they leave the state to avoid there own poison.

>I don't hunt Africa and don't
>plan on it but would
>like to help, but what
>can I do to help
>?

You can by contacting your State Senator and objecting to this legislation. Ask him or her to oppose it and vote no. It does absolutely nothing to help the wildlife in question, all it does is put yet another restriction on Californians from doing legal things they want to engage in.

You can also help by supporting the California Waterfowl Association and their political Action Committee. CWA has a full time lobbyist on staff and we've started a PAC to support hunting and wildlife friendly legislators as well as opposing those who would further restrict our way of life.

Dan, I did a search and couldn't find anything about the proposed legislation. SB1487, or otherwise. When I contact my representative I want to get it right so he'll know what I'm talking about.

Any help? A link? Thanks

Steve

LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-18 AT 10:31AM (MST)[p]Steve and others, here is a link.

This bill was originally about the transportation system electrification, but was 'Gutted and Amended' and turned into an anti-hunting bill. I've got CWA's lobbyist working on this, setting up a meeting with the authors staff and writing a letter of opposition.

This bill will do the opposite of what it purports. It'll harm long term survival of African wildlife. It simply is one more attack on hunters (remember the Camels nose under the tent) where a lot of people may not want to oppose because it doesn't directly affect them. However, when crap like this passes, it encourages the antis to go a little further.

This needs to be stopped now, without the senate approving it beyond committee.

I got it now Dan. It was gutted. Thanks, I'll get on it. This train wreck needs to stop, and stop now!

I'm going with CWA's lobbyist tomorrow, to meet with Senator Stern's staff to discuss this misguided legislation. It should be interesting.

LAST EDITED ON May-06-18 AT 07:11PM (MST)[p]California has become an absolute nightmare for 2nd amendment supporters, hunters and even for fishermen as there in a bill going forward to ban lead fishing weights.

If Gavin Newsom is elected governor we will be screwed like you cannot even imagine.
Elect Travis Allen.

The deadline to register to vote is May 21st.

The June 5th primary election is absolutely critical to get a Republican on the ballot.

It only takes a minute to register online and it's importance cannot be ovetstressed...it is imperative that you register your family and everyone you know of voting age and vote June 5th.
