Looking for some help on this tag.
I'm Hoping I could talk with someone who has hunted this area before.
Years back I hunted the Klamath and big lagoon hunts. This time around its my wife that drew the tag.
Marble mts and the trinities are new to me.
Any help would be appreciated ,
Thanks
Howdy

Ok db&b;

I see replies have been somewhat limited, so.....

Here's the thing with your wife's elk tag and the unit being new to you.........those elk are not necessarily scattered all throughout the unit as much as they are concentrated in pockets/areas throughout the unit. Yes, they do wander around a lot, but those occasional sightings probably shouldn't be used as a basis for hunting.

I'm not going to express any specific areas or secrets openly here, but......track down a biologist and learn those areas he discusses with you.

And this will apply to anyone that may have one of those tags.........it's gonna be so flippin HOT until opening day (most likely during the season too) that you probably won't be able to see any elk as they will be in the thick timber, bedded.

Once you learn the areas & access within them, be ready to focus INTENTLY on scouting starting the Saturday of Labor Day weekend to opening day.

That should get you started. Good luck,

nocal

Get into wilderness.
There are better chances of successful outcome..
I hunted in 2002.. I got a 5x5 raghorn..
Very tough hunt..been alot of fires since then around Happy Camp..
Ranger station was a lot of help then to..
Tons of Bears...tons!
I saw no rutting activity then also and thought I should have...
I saw a few brusiers too but no chance of recovery being very far away and or river between us.. like they knew!
Once hunt started they got in the chit..
Smacked

I live in the marble mountain unit and if i ever draw the tag i will hire an outfitter. You need to get way back in the wilderness to get a really good bull and beleive me there are some REALLY good bulls. It is almost certainly going to be hot as hell during your hunt even at 6000 ft. elevation so you need to get that bull out and cooled ASAP. If you have pack animals it is certainly doable on your own. There is an excellent outfitter over here in Sawyers Bar that i would highly recommend, he lives with those elk from spring to fall. I can give you his contact info if you want.

Yes dean mcbroom. Although they actually live just down river from sawyers.

Unless you have good stock and a bunch of time I would reccomend going with dean.

Good luck and congrats! I can't seem to pull that tag either sisq- one off max is just not quite enough to get the home unit tag!

Don?t over look highway 3 near trinity lake and Douglas city out towards deer creek and all along highway 96 too. Elk are easily accessible 1-3miles in on the west side of the wilderness You can get it done without a guide, but you will have to work hard to locate the herds.

You are probably already hunting but if still looking ....... They are rutting pretty good in areas we hunted this last couple days. I saw a couple small bulls and decent bull working cows. PM coming your way.

Hello Bill,
I have a cow tag for the marbles having a hard time locating anything. If you dont mind giving up any info on where you were seeing elk I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Michael

Our hunt ended with my wife, Grandma of 4 taking an Average 5x6 bull on Saturday morning at first light.
We called him into about 50-60 yds He tried to get down wind of us but the 7mm RUM foiled his plan.
It was hot ,dry and the bulls were not talking at all for us.
This bull answered my bugle with a funny sounding grunt and then he started raking.
I started breaking dead sticks and raking too. He charged in after that.
Met some great people on the hunt.
Spotted a bull for another hunter on the hunt and passed along info as well to wallow and fresh sign areas.
Thanks to those that sent info my way!!!!
