El Dorado National Forrest

Anyone here like to hunt in the El Dorado National Forest or thereabouts? Maybe Air Port Flat, Hell Hole, Ice House etc.? Of the many camp grounds, I'm trying to find the best that are both hunter friendly and close to areas that have decent hunting (bear, deer, pig, turkey). I'm not looking for someone's "secret spot", but am trying to figure out where to pitch a tent and hunt for a few days. Maybe forget about the camp sites and hit the forest floor? I'd appreciate any advice!

Any campground will do. Lots of places to camp there as well just on the National forest property. Go to ranger station there on ice house road to get a map of the forest Service roads. Pay attention to the fire restrictions if you're not in a developed campground though.

Thanks, will do! From what I can tell, there's not many deer or hogs in these mountains. Bears are on tap though. Anywhere around Lake Tahoe gives you action. Wherever I go, I'm gonna want that campfire, so they might affect my choice a tiny bit. Cheers!

Yeah, it's a bummer about there being no hogs. Just bear and deer (and varmits) from what I've seen.

I'd like to do some day hunts on public lands in Sonoma or Monterey. Any suggestions on a decent area? My brother has lots of property in Humbolt Co., so I'm heading that way in October.

First road on left past Union Valley Res. No camp grounds just camping in National Forest.
NO campfires due to high fire conditions, camp stove and gas fired bbq?s allowed.
