My greenhorn buddy put in for X1 by himself this year and I won't be able to go up there to help him out do to family obligations. Anybody have any input as to which side of the zone to send him to? North? South? East? West? Middle? He doesn't have high expectations but it would be cool to at least put him where there might be a few deer. Thanks for any advice.

where were you going to take him before the family obligations came up??

Never had any plans of taking him anywhere since I haven't hunted that area and I also knew before the draws I would't be able to hunt much this year. If I could I would be up there helping him out though. Honestly not quite sure why he put in for that zone but he has been up scouting around Tionesta. He asked me for ideas and I told him I would look at some maps and see what I could come up with. I got a few thoughts but figured I would see if I could get some more input. Seems kind of quiet around here anyway.

Gardner mtn..
Period..
Lots of bears..
I was B zone...more bears taken than Bucks..every ridge had 3 good size on it. Home now going back up Tuesday..
Tell him good luck..
Camp at Medicine Lake its a easy drive. Medicine mtn had Bucks on it also with a few Bears that were pretty aggressive so be careful..

Hey Smacked thanks for the tips. I will pass on the info. Seems like the bear population keeps going up all over northern CA. I saw a couple of monsters last year myself. Good luck in B zone. Let us know how it goes.

Soooo....

It's been over for a couple weeks. How did the X1 hunters do?

My buddy the greenhorn never was able to turn up anything good so he came home empty handed. Sounded like he had a good time and liked the looks of the area so he might try it again. Thanks again for the tips.

Hey Smacked you get anything good in bzone?

I heard it was tuff...
Bow hunters tore it up..
My spots still intact..from what my friend said..
Next year..

I grew up hunting X1 and lived at the edge of the unit for 30 years. Killed a few huge buck by Calif standards. We usually drew every year in those days. The areas mentioned above are known for average dinks. Guess my honey holes still havent been hit?
