The New Guy

What's up guys. I'm a 27 year old guy who just moved up near Folsom, CA (from the concrete jungle of the Bay Area) and I'm just looking to make some friends in the hunting community.

I got into hunting about 2 years ago on my own due to an appreciation for nature, animals, and understanding/taking responsibility for where my food comes from.

My main problem is that I didn't grow up in a hunting family, nor do I know people with private land, so my learning curve is pretty steep and littered with trips to public land and YouTube videos. I'm not afraid of research, but it's pretty discouraging to not even know if I'm headed in the right direction 99% of the time! Haha.

If anybody lives in the area and can help me make up for 26 years of city-livin', I'd appreciate it!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-02-18 AT 03:24PM (MST)[p]Welcome to the huntin' club, GunDog.

What have you been hunting the past couple years? Deer, ducks? The good thing about living in Folsom, is that there is a lot of public land to hunt near you.

Be a little more specific and I'll do whatever I can to lead you in the right direction, as I'm sure others will too.

Hey 3x2. Thanks for the response! I've got an ?A? Zone deer tag as well as a D3-5 Zone tag.

I started out with a shotgun hunting birds (quail, dove, waterfowl) and this year is my first year getting a deer tag. I've been prowling Spenceville Wildlife Area, Cronan Ranch and even ventured to the El Dorado Forest (where I encountered a bear for the first time in my life but no deer).

PM Sent.

And if you want to extend your season and do your part for predator control definitely get a bear tag.

I've spent a lot of time in D6 growing up, but never D3-5. I hunt A and B zones now, and also have experience in C zone, and a couple of "X" zones.
I can give you some pointers in A and B zone if you'd like.

Also, in the Colusa-Chico area there are several duck clubs where you can day hunt and meet fellow hunters. Just a thought.

Good luck in D zone this year.
